Agent Carter

ABC just picked up a new series... Agent Carter. Really, is this a smart move? Agent's of Shield had a hard enough time making it this season. Now, they are going to overkill this and both will flop or will they compliment each other and draw viewers to both. Time will tell but I'm thinking bad move.

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
If the writing and direction is like the first half of AoS, the series is doomed but if they pick up and carry on where they are now and keep momentum up it might be a hit show.

I enjoyed the Agent Carter short & love the character but agree that it's very ambitious to green light a series based on the rocky success of AoS.

I like the idea a lot and think it could do better than AOS!

Capt America was a great movie, especially with the whole time period.

A spy series set in the 50s and the beginning of how Shield came to be sounds like a winner!

I kinda feel the same way. Having two shows not focusing on an actual superhero won't really hit the masses in my opinion. I think AoS might have a tough time getting to a 3rd season if they don't start adding some name recognition early on in season two. I will watch it and I will probably like it, as I like agents of shield. I told my wife about it (who is obsessed with the Marvel movies) said, "Carter? Meh, doesn't really interest me." Is she the norm? Time will tell.

AoS had a really big drop after the pilot (and it was pretty lackluster for its first 13 episodes), but was hardly a flop. It's still the second (sometimes the third) most watched show in the 18-49 demo, but most important has been the most watched show by males the whole season (19 weeks), and that's demo is not ABC strong suit.

Has been reported by Deadline that Agent Carter will have a 13 episodes season, and it's going to be aired between the first and second half of AoS, so I think it will have the opposite effect (if well executed, of course): one of the problems that AoS first season had was the awfully uneven schedule (and the one month long Olympic pause). Since now it seems they have understood that a less episodic structure is better, they can air the first and second block of the season like 2 mini seasons, with a nice big fat cliffhanger at the end of the first block, and keep people watching during the long hiatus with Agents Carter.

They said Howard Stark will be a recurring, but more awesome Neal McDonough has expressed interest to come back as Dum Dum Dugan (a beloved minor characters from the comics) and right now is not starring in anything. It will not only serve a backstory for SHIELD, but for HYDRA too.

And of course, it could be something like Alias meets Mad Men =)

Can we go yet?

Yes! I squealed when I saw this. I love Agent Carter, from the movie to her short, she's just a great character. And with Howard Stark and other familiar faces along with her? Yes. The only bad part it seems could be that it's so short! I think the setting will help a lot too. I just hope it will be set out in the continuing story, not just like the episodic feeling the first half of AoS gave off.
Maybe we could even see the origins on The Winter Solider? He must be around by this point. (no stop marvel would never do that no)

I figure you'll get at least some tie-in from The Howling Commandos and AoS now since Agent Tripp's grandpa was a Commando. Love the time frame and the potential for lots of interesting backstory. Great move!

Just watched the finally of AOS I stuck with it through the chain lift beginning and enjoyed the ride. I feel like they should move both shows to Monday just for the tagline of "Marvelous Mondays on ABC"

I say this with only the slightest bit of "it couldn't ever happen" intended- Just wait until they tie Once Upon A Time into SHIELD...Yeah, it may be just a passing reference or allusion or a cutaway of an action figure, a mention...just sayin.

Here's an interesting list of things to see in the show. I would love to see the Invaders, but it wouldn't feel right without Cap.

Oh, lord--You're not going to get them. Except for "Peggy Olson with a gun", of course. (Call me burned on waiting for actual MCU references to show up in the first half of SHIELD.)

Did you even LOOK at the show description?
It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

Yes. This is "Female Marvel counterprogramming"--First produced by the studio execs, who think every female sidekick has to be given their own solo spinoff for "Demographic marketing" and to satisfy the actress's agent, and then by network execs, who've gotten used to the fact that male viewers don't watch big-six network TV anymore, and have to pitch every network show to Professional Female Empowerment audiences.
Consider this the Marvel equivalent of that NBC Wonder Woman series where Diana Prince was going to be a modern businesswoman trying to balance her roles and struggling with her place in today's society...
