The 8 episode season is perfect. Just enough to tell a complete story but not so long that you need a bunch of filler to make a 22 episode season.

I remember when that was called a miniseries, and aired over a week or two as event television. ("Roots," "The Thornbirds," even PBS' "The Civil War.").

I guess that was "binge-watching," 1970s style!
