Advice about getting around in Florida

Hope someone can help. We're taking a short cruise out of Miami before heading over to WDW. On the way from the Miami airport to the port, we need to stop off at AAA (South Miami is apparenty the closest) to pick up discount tix to Universal and a liquor or grocery store to get some champagne (we each can take a bottle on board) and some sodas. We have 5 hours, so plenty of time, and will save $100 on the tix and no doubt lots on the drinks plus $64 on the cruise shuttle if we take a cab to do all our running around but I was wondering if there was any better (read cheaper) way to get around. We will have our luggage so public transportation would be pretty difficult. Also where should we go for the drinks? Here in CA I'd just go to Safeway. Thanks for any help.

Just wondering - would it be possible to order the tickets through that Miami AAA office prior to your trip? I know our local office sells tickets over the phone and online.

Florida pretty much doesn't have public transport. Rental cars are the preferred way of travel for most tourists.

Any grocery store will sell alcohol including wine and beer. One of the most common supermarkets in Florida is Publix and they are everywhere.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting about AAA; the lady at the central office for the Florida area said these tickets can't be bought online or over the phone, and I know with my local office I have to go in to get the discount tickets for California attractions (unless I'm getting something through AAA travel, which these aren't). You wouldn't believe how hard it was to even get the western area guy to give me a Florida area phone number; the Florida area lady was much nicer and more helpful.

AAA varies so much!! Not just from regional divisions, but even office to office. Our local office isn't good, but the one in the next town over is terrific.

Good luck getting everything sorted out.

I'm not sure what would be the cheapiest way in miami, but let me warn you to be VERY carefull in Miami. It's very dangerous in some areas. I'd try to find a grocery store like the one post said, Publix are very popular in Florida and they're everywhere. I'd call the AAA office in Miami back and ask her advice.
