advance check-in at POFQ

Hi all,
Two quick questions. First, is there a disadvantage to doing online check-in ten days in advance? Are you less likely to get a complimentary room upgrade or request granted? Second, is there a particular building at POFQ you would recommend? It's my wife and I and our 3 kids 8, 5, and 1. We don't take the buses at WDW. Thanks!

I got an upgrade on my first anniversary at the Boardwalk, with a regular check in. I think it's up to the cast member who checks you in, and they can do a surprise upgrade if they're available. It's my understanding that with online check-in, your room has already been assigned to you. So you will probably get a room that you requested, but not any upgrades. I'm not certain though.

As far as buildings go, we were assigned to building 3 the one time we stayed at POFQ, and liked the quietness of it. It's a really small resort, so nothing is that far. But when we walked around, we decided we'd really like a water view from building 5 or 6. Building 5 is near the dock & the pool. Building 6 seemed quieter, but peaceful. Here's a map, you can see where you'd like to be.

Call And ask for your preferred building NOW through reservations -- you need your confirmation number. There is nowhere to do that on Online checkin

You should ALWAYS use online checkin at POFQ, it literally means about a three minute wait if anyone is in front of you, and most usually just a walk right up to the checkin counter. I've done it a half dozen times over the past couple years.

It will make no difference as to upgrades assigned -- in fact, for people that are single, traveling without kids, it frequently results in upgrades because it allows the reservation folks to figure out who goes where, what rooms remain open and sure to be unbooked, and move people around. They almost always prioritize travellers without children first.

Note that is is VERY rare for a family travelling with kids to get an upgrade -- they assign the rooms way in advance based on number in party AND number of children in party. In general reservation terms, an "Upgrade" is frequently seen as an "inconvenience" to many actual resort guests.....you might get a river view at POFQ -- but it will come at the cost of being in a further building. Personally, I wouldn't consider that an "upgrade"...

You have a better chance of getting what you want by just calling reservations and asking for your request in advance.

As to which building you should stay in at POFQ -- if you have never stayed there before, you will quickly see it is a small resort -- you can ask for buildings 2,3,4,5 to be central (they also tend to be louder)....but note that there are only 4 other buildings outside there so at most you are one building removed from the Mint/pool. I wouldn't worry too much about it at POFQ.

We just came back and were in Bldg 7 with a riverview. It was an easy walk to buses and main Bldg. Plus, we had breakfast one morning at Riverside and it was a short walk as well. We found it very quiet. We did online check-in and it took not even 5 minutes to get our packet. Plus, we arrived at 11:am and our room was ready.

I always check-in online. It's fast. You wonder why the 20 people standing in line didn't do online check-in. Do they not have an email address? Did they use a travel agent that didn't book them correctly? We've gotten upgrades with online check-in twice. Once they greeted us at the door at 8:30am to tell us the good news! They seem to take your word for it that you'll be there when you say you will during online check-in.

When we went in 09 I checked in early for Pop and got the 50's that I had requested.

We stayed in bldg 3 at FQ and it was perfect for us we had my mom (who was about to have 2 hip replacements) and a few kids with us so we loved being close to food court/lobby/buses

The first time I booked a trip to WDW on my own, I went through regular check-in. I will now be using the online check-in for future trips!

Online check-in is great if you're comfortable with being handed a folder and your keys and being sent on your merry way. It's great for the veteran WDW traveler who doesn't need the dining plan, ticket options, and whatnot, explained to them. For the first time guest, or the guest with a lot of questions, I recommend the regular check-in line. Of course, if you do online check-in and have questions, the CM will gladly answer them for you. It will just slow down the line, since online check-in typically only has one CM working it.

Oh, and if you're arriving late at night, when it's quiet, it doesn't matter which one you do...at that hour, there's usually only one CM at the entire front desk, working both lines (though lines don't really exist at that time).
