Ads on the Busses

Last summer, nearing the arrival of Atlantis, there was talk in Monorails about having one of our trains "wrapped" with an advertisement for the movie. (By wrapped, I mean, covered with those vinyl advertisements, simmilar to a city bus) The idea was tossed about... and very well almost happened. However, the decision was made to scrap the idea. (Thankfully)

At any rate... it got me thinking... Why does Disney not wrap thier own fleet of busses? I mean, everywhere you go on property, you see a Disney bus. Disney does wrap other companies busses... ie: Mears, Lynx, Tourist Tips... they all have busses in thier fleet with Disney advertising.

Anyhoo, I partially got the answer to my question the other night when driving home. I passed Vehicle Maintenance, and I saw two of the new Nova low floor busses (didn't catch thier #'s) with small rectangular advertisements for Chester and Hester's Dino-rama, that were covering the "Disney Transport" logo on the side of the bus.

What do y'all think about Disney and advertising on the busses? Wrapping? Small boards? Yes? no? Comments?

I think that it's a very smart move believe it or not (although I'm not completely clear on how large the ads are) because, while all of us on this board are completely familiarized with the newest attractions, shows, restaurants, etc., most guests are not and really have more on their mind than to dissect specific attraction and things. I think it is a good way to familiarize mainstream visitors with WDW's newest offerings.

I remember seeing the concept pic for the wrapped monorail...man was that horrid...

I think the busses tho would be a good "target" for wrapping..since they cover MUCH more ground than the monorails..and are seen by more people...

There isn't any special wrapping to a bus, where it mattes. Unlike a monorail where the color is special to people (well most people i guess). I think ADS on the busses are fine, they were already on the inside. I just don't want other companies advertising on the outside of busses, only Disney for their attractions.

I think it would be real sweet to see all of the buses wrapped with different ads for Disney attractions and hotels.

This would certainly make people like the buses more, in my opinion. All of the kids wold be like "OOoooooo, we get to ride on the Buzz Lightyear bus!" or something like that. Heck, I would probably say that too!:D

That's true people would be much happier during those late-night bus trips!

That'd certainly be a nice thing... I've encountered some real... (insert non-Disney word)'s the past few days...

I haven't worked an exit in a few weeks... but usually I get a good group of people. I've even had a few people request my bus... lol... my jokes are corny and stupid at times... but they laugh and enjoy themselves. :)

I like them for two reasons... they're low to the ground, which means easy entry both for ambulatory guests, and guests travelling with wheelchairs... And of course, the most important part, the newest batch we got has some ohhhh-sooo-comfy Recaro seats... they are SOOO nice... hehe :)

By the way tyler, how many total WDW buses are there including old, new, retired, and nonworking and working....?

We have now 263 busses in service. Of that... (and don't quote me on the following numbers... they're just best guesses)

13 "Purple Stripers" (Cast Shuttles, Training busses, and... 35' and 40' GMC RTS busses, approx 20yrs old... they gave 'em to us because the interiors are crap... lol... Fleet numbers 26xx) Three of the Purple Stripers were recently converted to Character Caravan busses

As for the Disney Transport fleet...
5 GMC RTS 35' busses (approx 20yrs old, 2 of these are Special Service busses equipped to handle 5 wheelchairs each, see below for Fleet numbers)

44 GMC RTS 40' busses (ranging 12-20yrs old, Fleet numbers 2701-2744)

40 GMC RTS 40' widebody busses (Rebuilt 5yrs ago, Fleet numbers 2745-2785)

105 TMC RTS 40' busses (10-12yrs old, Fleet numbers 4700-4804)

9 Nova/TMC RTS 40' busses (8yrs old, Fleet numbers 4805-4814)

55 Nova LFS 40' widebody low floor busses (Fleet numbers 4815+)

In addition, we also own 3 '95 MCI 102DL coach busses (painted white with Disney script) as well as a whole bunch of new VanHool T2145 Disney Cruise Line busses. I'm not sure how many of the VanHool busses we own, probably around 30... but both the MCI and VanHool's are operated by Mears Destination Services, however, rumor has it that we will be taking those over.

As for retired busses, we have a lot out by Vehicle Maintenance where we put the retired busses as well as junk busses that we've purchased for parts.
