Adding discount to existing reservation

I read a thread about this subject, but it was a little over a year old and I just wanted to check and make sure the information was still correct.
We are looking to take a long weekend trip in October and trying to be mindful of our budget (read: cheap trip). I know historically there are room only discounts for late October that are announced in August. I would like to book our room at All Star Sports now, and then apply the discount later if/when it becomes available. We would be booking room only and getting our tickets from undercover tourist.
I'm wondering if this is our best course of action? Or should we wait until the discount becomes available and then book our room. We're going to stay at Sports regardless of discount or not.. but wasn't sure if we could hit a road bump along the way.

Can't hurt. Yes, you can add the discount code after the fact assuming the discount applies to that resort and that there's inventory available at the discounted rate. You won't really help or hurt yourself by booking now but if you're staying there no matter what, you might as well.
