activating MB before trip

do I need/can I activate our MB before our trip? we have somehow through issues with reservations got 6 extra MB for group of 8. we can just activate the one set right?

Yes, you should link your Magic Bands to your My Disney Experience account once you receive them in the mail.

You will only need one MB linked to each individual in the travel party. However, you MAY link multiple MBs to each person. It's not necessary though.
