Accuracy of wait times shown in app?

For those who have visited in recent months, how accurate are the wait times that are shown in the app?

It’s been a few years since I have been, and as I look at the wait times, it is hard to believe that in early February on a Thursday morning at 11AM that attractions like HM, PoTC, JC and others have wait times around an hour.

That's the norm now! As time goes by, more and more guests are using FP+, which means everything is "booked up" earlier, FP+ for the better attractions are harder to find, and all FP+-enabled attractions have longer standby lines. We visit once every 2 years, and the differences between visits the last 3 times have been dramatic, in terms of wait times going up and FP+ availability shrinking appreciably each time.

I fully understand the impact the FP+ had had. It's just surprising as to how long the waits have become.

A combination of FP+ and Disney reducing their operating coats by not running attractions at full capacity.

As I stare at another February weekday with 10-15 MK attractions with a wait time of at least 45 minutes, I started wondering...does TDO really care how long guests stand in line? They will still carve out time to eat and shop. What do they care if you get to go on 5 attractions or 20.

Wasn't the whole point of MM+ to spend less time in line?

With crazy wait times like this, I am questioning the worth of a 1 day visit to MK for $125 for an upcoming trip to Orlando in March.

I agree that they are definitely pretty accurate. We have been surprised a time or two when going to a ride that says 20 or 30 minutes and it says 60 when we get there but when rides have issues, it takes a moment for that to be reflected in the app. We rely on it quite a bit because we don't generally get in a line longer than 45 minutes. Since we have two little ones, the rides we like the most tend to be shorter waits, aside from Peter pan.

This is slightly off topic and anecdotal as I have no data to back this up, but I’m convinced that the app loses some of its usefulness since so many are looking at the same data and crowds tend to flock to “low wait time” attractions. If you’re not careful you can find your party traveling from one perceived low wait time attraction to another only to find the line has increased significantly.

Usually accurate, but many a time I've seen them very over-inflated. Big Thunder often shows around 45-60 at peak time, but lately I've always been on in around 15-20, no need for an FP. Both sides being in use makes it one of the fastest lines in the park. Same with Everest recently showing a 60-minute wait, only took 20 minutes from start to load. I've seen the opposite too with wait times being grossly underestimated in comparison to the actual queue length.
