Abridged Disney Dreams Come True Parade coming this summer?

When he talks about the trouble it will cause getting it back to the front of the park again, and not being able to show Spectro Magic couldn't they easily solve the problem and shwo DDCT twice? Just run it back towards the front the other time. That's what they do at Disneyland with Parade of Dreams

It's definitely a difficult situation because the bridge is needed for the parade routes. But they're doing the best they can for the guests during this minor roadblock. Hopefully it won't end up too bad.

You probably couldn't have known, but ABP'd:

And a full month before!

True, but there's a new article out giving new details about the parade plans, which is what the OP was posting.

My question is, why can't they drive the floats back to the storage barn via Floridian Way? If they exit the park back by Toontown, they'd be able to drive out the MK access road, along Floridian Way, and back into the park via the gate near the parade storage area. By GMaps pedometer, this distance is only 0.6 miles (the parade route gate-to-gate is about 0.45 miles). A float running at 5MPH (just a guess, no idea what the actual max speed is on the floats) would cover that in about 7 1/2 minutes. I'd guess that the entire parade could cover that distance in about 20-30 minutes.

Yes, it's a public road, and cast members use it, but with enough prior warning to the CMs property-wide, it wouldn't make too big of an impact to close that stretch for half an hour. (They do it nightly during Wishes anyway, don't they?)

The road is plenty wide enough for the floats. The only thing I can think of that would keep this form happening would be if there's something along the route that the floats couldn't drive over, perhaps the security barriers at the entrance to the access roads?

In my opinion, they should put all their effort into finding a way to show Spectro, and concede the atrocious DDCT parade (if there is any way for Spectro to be feasible through all of this). I wouldn't mind missing DDCT at all, but Spectro is a different story...

Tiny problem: the security barricades are pretty narrow. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to fit through the barricades either going out onto Floridian Way, or back into Park 2.

Yeah, I was afraid of something like that. I know they're barricades, and deisnged NOT to move, but just how permanent ARE they? Are they something that could be dismantled/changed for a 2-3 week period?

Well, the biggest part of the barricade is actually in the ground. However, there are some fairly permanent poles and such that narrow access down to one lane on each side of the road, along with associate sensors and signage. It's possible, though very unlikely, that the above-ground portion of the barricade system could be temporarily dismantled.

I have seen the Villians float travel from Central Shops to behind Splash Mountain before. Im sure the same thing could be done behind toontown.

Can someone who has been to the parks in the last day post a picture of the bridge close up. I dont think that that type of bridge has to be removed to be repaired. The walking surface, is somewhat seperate from the supporting structure. If I remeber, it seems the bridge can be suppoerted while the work is done under it. Are there supports under that bridge right now? It is the supporting columns that are the concern , and the reason for the repairs, correct?

I agree 100% but will not worry since the source of the info is 99% of the time full of BS

Rob's response is actually a good one. However, logistically, it couldn't be done. It would just be nasty.

The security lanes ARE designed to be pulled out and broken down to be wider just in case. This is how the extra-large cranes enter the park. Maintenance pulls some of the barrier pieces and poles. But to do that twice per day (well, six times per day...one day parade, and two spectros)...once going out and once going in...would be a logistical nightmare. They'd have to have an entire maintenance shift probably just dedicated to barrier ops.

But why couldn't this be feasible? Well at Park 2, while the barriers were down, and floats traveling through...the MK VIP Cast Member service bus would have to be suspended. This would cause horrible delays for cast members trying to use the main bus service between 3:30-4:00pm, from 9:30-10:00pm, and from 11:30pm-12:00am. No cast members would be able to arrive or leave.

This would also block a major fire department access point into the park during float transport.

But without all of the other stuff..yep, it could work! :)
