ABC's "The Bachelor" Chooses Helene in Finale

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- School psychologist Helene won the ring in ABC's "The Bachelor" Wednesday night, leaving an Alabama college senior in tears in the finale of the popular television reality series. Missouri banker Aaron Buerge, 28, chose the 27-year-old brunette from New Jersey over blonde Brooke, 22, the two finalists from an original field of 25 eager young women who were eliminated, week by week, in the fight to get "engaged" to the show's star. The show's bachelor is not obliged to marry the woman he picks. "The Bachelor" last week scored the network's best ratings in more than 3½ years among women in the coveted 18 to 34 age bracket. That episode drew an average of 16.8 million viewers -- up from 16.3 million the previous week and from 10.8 million for the same episode of last season's edition of the show. ABC said the results mean it beat NBC's "West Wing" in the hour among total viewers for the second consecutive week. The show's creators are preparing a reverse version, "The Bachelorette," to air in January.
