ABC Rounds Up 'US Marshals' Pilot

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -- ABC has given a pilot commitment to "US Marshals," a drama project from Academy Award-winning producers Arnold and Anne Kopelson and Warner Bros. Television. The project, to be written by Larry Ferguson, was inspired by the feature of the same name produced by the Kopelsons that followed a US marshal (Tommy Lee Jones) and his team's hunt for a convicted murderer (Wesley Snipes). "We had great success with 'US Marshals,' and we always thought that it would make a great televi-sion show, but we didn't want to just mirror the movie; we wanted to bring reality to it," said Arnold Kopelson, who executive produces the show with Anne Kopelson and Ferguson. The show's development team is work-ing closely with United States Marshals Service officials to use real cases as a basis for the series, which will focus on a group of maverick marshals with unorthodox methods of fighting crime. What attracted the Kopel-sons to the idea of doing the TV series was marshals' broad range of duties, which vary from apprehending fugitives and guarding witnesses in court to confiscating cargo from ships and escorting dignitaries to public functions. ABC Entertainment president Susan Lyne is also optimistic about the project.
