ABC Names New Daytime TV Chief

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- The ABC television network on Thursday named Brian Scott Frons as its new president of ABC Daytime, overseeing programming for the network's lineup of soap operas and talk shows airing during the day. Unlike ABC's prime time division that has suffered from weak ratings this season, the daytime group has been No. 1 in the key daytime demographic group of women 18- to 49-years-old for 25 years behind popular soaps like "All My Children" and "General Hospital" and more recent talk show, "The View." Frons joins ABC Daytime from London-based SBS Broadcasting, S.A., where he was senior vice presi-dent of programming for 12 SBS channels that reached 125 million European viewers. He has been vice president creative affairs for NBC Productions and has held daytime programming jobs at NBC and CBS. Frons succeeds Angela Shapiro, who moved to Disney's new ABC Family cable TV network earlier this year, and he will report to Alex Wallau, president of ABC Television Network.
