AAA worth it?

Is anyone here a AAA member? If so, is it worth having for all of the discounts they offer?

IMO, the DISNEY discounts certainly aren't worth it, but the discounts on movie tickets, restaurants, etc., plus the national roadside assistance is what makes it extremely worthwhile.

Yeah, I just saw that the premium membership allows for 4 tows a year per member to a 100 mile distance. They say the vehicle must be operable. Any idea what their idea of operable is? I was thinking of using this to have my Honda crx towed from my in-laws house to my house. It starts and runs for a short period of time. I wonder if that means it's operable?

The discounts I'm seeing on rental cars and other stuff is very desirable to us, since we already use Hertz for my daughters cheer competitions out of state, so that would be a bonus, as well as the hotel discounts.

Yeah I think they should tow that car for you. The difference between the standard and premium memberships is the distance allowed, so my basic membership is only ten miles of free towing, which is usually just enough to get to a mechanic/shop. The discounts are worth it as long as you remember to use them. I know we buy an "Entertainment Book" as a fundraiser every year, and it usually gathers dust because we forget to use it.

Operable basically means a car you regularly drive that has broken down somewhere. If it is obvious that the car has been sitting in the same spot for more than a week AAA will typically not tow it.

When no other Disney discounts exist, you can always fall back on the AAA Disney room discounts, as they are available almost every week of the year, except for Christmas week. AAA room discounts range from 10-20%

Not necessarily. We worked out in another thread that those discounts vary from regional club to club. For example, the club near me never offers room discounts, but has a minor discount available for park tickets.

You do know that you can call Disney directly for a AAA room only discount and not go through your local club? These are consistent, based on availability, of course.

See http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#AAA for full details.

Well, it's primered and not stock so I don't know how they'd rule it.

Agree 100%! Although we use our CAA to book our trip every two years, we never really use their discount they offer. I usually give her a better pin from here or my email and she applies it for me. The Diamond Card and some of the stuff that comes with your package since it was booked through AAA are kinda nice though. We really took advantage of the Diamond Card discounts this year more than years past.

And as funny as it sounds, the thing we use our CAA membership for the most is......buying movie tickets! They have a GREAT deal called the Adults Night Out where we can get 2 adult movie tickets, 2 regular drinks and a regular popcorn for something like $26 Canadian. That is an awesome deal up here, and they let us upgrade to the large drinks and popcorn for only a $1 or something like that more!!! :sohappy:

Yeah, I don't plan on using AAA discounts for Disney. It looks like I'd get far more out of it due to us doing some traveling for my daughter's cheer. The hotel and rental car discounts should help. We're not too concerned with movie tickets because except during the winter we go to our local drive in and it's only $14 for us and our two children to watch 2 movies, and we bring our own food and cooler.

I definitely think the discounts would be way worth it, not to mention getting my car towed. That alone would cost around $75 normally.

not much of a discount

I tried to find discounts everywhere. You do save around $40 with AAA but only if you actually go to a AAA location to get the tickets. I found that most of the discount places including AAA have a cheaper price on the tickets but after you add in fees/taxes/shipping etc. its not worth it.

Just to restate, you can save 10%, 15%, up to 20% on a Disney room only reservation (depending on the season) when you book direct with the Walt Disney Travel Company - and any other travel agent can do this for you, such as Kingdom Konsultants.

It's great to have it as a fallback when discounts for the general public aren't available.

One thing also if you are looking to join AAA for discounts on other hotel chains. If you go online to book a lot of these they will actually have an online special that is cheaper than AAA if you book it online. The only downfall is that it may be non-refundable.

I like AAA, especially the towing. And it doesn't have to be your car. All you have to be is there (like a passenger). You can get the towing if you are a passenger and your driver gets stalled.

It is especially helpful if you are out of town and have no idea who the local towing companies are. They do it all for you.

The discounts are also available online for other hotels, tickets, etc.
