AAA Discounts

Are AAA discounts given on rooms w/package or does it have to be room only.
Thanks

You can save on both through AAA, including tickets, Magic Express transportation booking but, as mentioned, in most cases this must be done with an AAA agent. I have seen some other Disney booking sites, help price their product and AAA to help ensure you get the best possible prices.:sohappy:

In the past, one of the best things about booking with AAA is that they would give you an access to the blue diamond parking area, which is close enough to walk to Theme Park entrances. Do they still do that? (I have purchased the last few trips outside of AAA)

To get an AAA discount on a package, you must book through AAA. For discount on a room-only reservation, you can do it through Disney, AAA or any travel agent.

An AAA discount is NOT automatic ... it's not like having a coupon. Disney only allows the AAA discount until a certain percentage of rooms are rented ... once they reach a certain occupancy level for that category of room at that resort for those dates, the AAA discount is no longer available.

Since DVC villas tend to have a high occupancy rate throughout the year, I suspect there is a lower likelihood that they will be eligible for the AAA discount (based on the higher occupancy rate).

Could you use someone elses AAA to get the discount? What are the savings?

You must be an active AAA member, and have your AAA card number at the time of booking as well as show that card at the time of check-in. The card must be in the name of one of the adults staying in the room and must be active both at the time of booking and check-in.

An AAA member can however book up to 3 rooms (one for themselves and 2 others for family/friends) with their discount as long as all rooms are at the same resort for the same travel dates, and the AAA member is present when each room checks in.

Like others have stated, this is a discount marketing offer, not an entitlement. The number of rooms available is very limited. Once they sell out they are gone. The savings varies from 10% to 20% depending on the Resort, room category, and travel season. The offer dates are 1/1/08 to 12/18/08. Currently, a 2009 offer has not been released.

To confirm, AAA Room-Only Discount Offers can be booked directly with Disney or through any Travel Agency. AAA MYW Vacation Packages must be booked exclusively by a AAA Travel Agent.

Note, when calling Disney about a AAA discount offer, please be sure to have your AAA card number with you. We are not able to quote you a discounted rate or book the room without first recording the membership number.

We usually book through CAA over here even though we aren't members. My mother-in-law, who lives in the States and goes with us, is a member of AAA, so we use her.

The weird thing is they never ask us for her number when we book with our agent over here and I don't recall the Pop Century ever asking to see it when we check in. Wonder if we are actually getting the AAA rate then. When we booked our room last month for March 2009 at Pop through our CAA agent, the price did seem kinda high (same as what the price shows up as on Disney's site without discount).

It doesn't sound like you're getting the discount at all, then. We've gone through AAA travel with the same agent on our past two trips, and we always have to show our card to the agent prior to even getting a quote. We don't have to show it on check in, though. It's always saved us a few hundred. The discount varies depending on the level of resort and the season.

CAA will act as a Travel Agent for you whether you're a CAA member or not. They'll only book you a CAA discounted package or room if you're a CAA member.

I booked my family's trip through AAA. I booked a magic your way package plus dining. I received a discount on the room portion only. With the AAA package you also receive a preferred parking pass and a discount card. Don't get too excited about the discount card. It will not do you much good inside the parks. You can pick up a pamphlet at your local AAA travel agency that lists the benefits in detail.

I believe that you can book a room only reservation and get a AAA discount without going through AAA. If you don't want the dining package, this is a good alternative. The AAA travel agents don't specialize in Disney trips so they (for the most part) are not as knowledgeable as the travel agencies specializing in Disney Vacations. When I booked my trip, I realized that I knew more about Disney World from reading the guidebooks and my two previous trips than my AAA travel agent did. She was very professional and did a great job in making my reservations. I guess what I am trying to say is that you should have a pretty good idea of what you want if you book through AAA.

You can only get one discount per package. For example, you book your package through AAA and receive your room discount. If at a later date Disney offers free dining, you can change to the free dining but you will no longer receive your room discount. One other benefit of some of the travel agencies that specialize in Disney travel is that they will monitor special offers and automatically change your reservation if it saves you money. I don't think that AAA will do that for me. I will have to call them and ask them to modify my reservation. For me this is OK. I subscribe to Mousesaver.com. I have a Disney Visa and I visit numerous Disney bulletin boards almost daily. If a discount becomes available, I will know about it. I also am not expecting Disney to offer too much when I go since I am going Thanksgiving week.

One other benefit of a room only reservation is that it has a much more lenient cancellation policy.

I hope this helps. I think that booking through AAA will help you save money but you should educate yourself first and sign up for updates at www.mousesavers.com.

I used my AAA membership to get a 20% discount on a villa at OKW for this July. If I booked the package that AAA offers, the savings was only for a 4 or 5 day visit (I know they only offer a 4-day parkhopper that was discounted, they cannot offer a discount beyond the 4 days) and was only able to book a room - not a villa. I called Disney Res and I was able to get the Villa with my AAA discount by providing my membership # - and as the others have posted you DO have to provide the card at check-in. I used my AAA for my resort stay at DL last year, and they do ask for the card with ID.

I have booked POR two times with the AAA rate through Disney reservations. Neither time did they ask for my membership number when I made the reservation but they DID ask for the card at check-in (well I haven't taken the second trip yet but I am assuming so).

It is definitely worth a try, it depends on the season and the resort how much of a discount can be applied. Unfortunately it's not as much of a discount for deluxe resorts.

We have booked our last 6 trips with AAA. We have a Disney-knowledgable agent we use. The mebership was only $49/year. I have been a member since was 18. Last trip it came in very handy when I locked my keys in the car at McDonalds in Ocala. Our keys were out before we even finished eating. And living up here in Michgan, a jump start, or being yanked from a snow bank isnt too rare an occurance.

Stated in an earlier post you can only book 3 rooms with your AAA card.....

OK here's the ridiculous question:
What about a Grand Gathering? I am charge of the entire lot of family and friends. It looks to be about 8 rooms so far. How would that work? I plan on going into my local AAA office this August to book with my tax rebate.

Also slightly off topic: Is the deposit $200 per room or is the entire group one reservation? Just so I know how much to shake everyone down for before I head over.
