A thread for those of us who can't go in the near future

Hey there. So, for reasons I've already posted all over this forum, I am unable to go back to the World for the foreseeable future - yeah, it's because my partner hates Disney - grrrrr -

Jealous but happy for all those going soon, or scheduled.

Anyway, I am sure there are others in the same basket as me - want to go - can't go - due to work, $$, or any other number of reasons.

This is meant to be a friendly thread to discuss why we can't go, and strategies to get there - such as mine - DIVORCE!!

Kidding, kidding. After 15 years, I am stuck, but also blessed with a Disney hating fiend but wonderful person otherwise that I do love very much, despite the Disney hating flaw. But it just makes things difficult.

Any other stories from those having a hard time getting there?

Mine is the executive compensation. It is getting so ridiculous it is pricing the middle class out of going. They are altering Disney from a vacation for everyone to a vacation for the elite. It has slowly been taking root and slowly integrating it into effect. $70 for morning Fast Passes, $150 for evening FPs, charging more and more for entrance. When people found it much better to buy APs and going at least 2x in a 12 month period, they put the brakes on that too by charging almost $1,000 for APs.

For us, we have to settle a lawsuit before we can go again. Since there is no definitive end date for that, we have no clue when we can go again. We are vacationing else where at a fraction of the cost this Summer. <$1,000 for a 1 BR condo and passes to Williamsburg, VA for 7 nights. The same trip to WDW is ~$5,000.

For us- its because I can't take Annual Leave for the first 12 months of my new job which starts in August (which also happens to have wiped out a pre planned vacation to elsewhere at the same time but there you go!

I know its not a million years away and we probably wouldn't be going till around about then anyway but I think the fact that I CANT book yet amplifies the effect lol

Umm...

Basically I made my wife this deal that we'd hit the Dis every two to three years...and we'd go other places in-between...she doesn't hate the parks or anything...just doesn't have as much of an obsession as I do...

And...we just had another kid...so...we're licking those medical/financial wounds for the moment...which, you know...does put a damper on the trip-planning to about anywhere...

As a positive note though, I'm turning 30 next year...so, I'm planning on using that tax check to hit up DL for my birthday...God willing...that is.

Awesome subject matter!

My reason is very similar to yours. We went this March, and we plan on going every two years, with vacations to the Caribbean in between. Of course, the $6000-$7000 (Canadian $ lol) that we spend for the trip and a week at a value resort contributes to the once every 2 years as well. So our next trip, Pandora at DAK should be ready, and the trip after that, Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land at DHS.

Do you have the option of getting away on a short solo trip?? I've been in situations twice where DW couldnt go and she said... Why not go on a short trip by yourself? I jumped at the chance. They were very different kinds of trips, fewer days away, but worth doing. It gave me my much needed Disney fix.
At the moment we are putting off a trip due to the construction phases Disney is going through and because our next trip we want to have our DS join us. Hes getting a job change/ promotion and will not be able to go for a year or more. So we are thinking of just saving for a more pleasant trip with upgrades and a lot of extras to come. Thats our plan right now anyway.... it may change.
