A Project Gemini for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom?

Well, with rumblings of a project gemini for epcot, it made me think of how desperate MK and AK are in need of rehab. Magic Kingdom, a true classic, needs a new land or e-ticket. When was the last one? I'm not saying just throw in a roller coaster, but put some thought into it. That could breath new life into the park. And most importantly, fix Tomorrowland!
Now for Animal Kingdom. I hate to bring up these two dreaded words, but, I have to: Beastly Kingdom. Put it in! I know with EE, there is going to be a mythical creature in there, but BK could have probably been the most awesome land in all of the parks. Besides Australia or N. America, what are some other ideas that could work? There is so much potential.
I'm not a hater. I love Disney and I just think it has lost its spark. What do you guys think?

Tomorrowland is in great shape as it is as long as CoP and and Timekeeper stay open. I don't see why it needs to be fixed other than that.

I think the lands that need the most attention are...
1. Fantasyland (old skyway building)
2. Toontown (whole area needs to be updated)
3. Tommorrowland (SM needs to painted) not yellow...

I totally agree, there really isnt anything wrong with tomorrowland, except for a few areas.

I do agree that the Magic Kingdom could use some new e ticket rides, but I think all the lands are in great shape.

Well the reason Epcot would get a project gemini is cause Epcot sucks! MK, and AK are very good parks, infact MK is the highest attended park in the country if not the world. I dont see Disney sinking that kinda money into MK or AK especially not after E:E

Depends on Management

If Eisner rides out this storm then we can expect more of the same as far as the theme park part of the company.

If new life is breathed into the company thru new leadership, hopefully they can get that DIS stock back up to at least 40/share again by raising the quality of ABC programming first, and then working on the theme parks.

Project Gemini, from what i've read, seems to be an umbrella approach, something that the MK imo doesn't need. The majority of that park is fine the way it is. So subtle changes such as the old 20,000 leagues area etc being rehabbed i think are called for, rather than changing the theming or attractions at the rate that is happening at EPCOT.

nothing's wrong with Tomorrowland...i'm not quite sure where you're getting that, unless you're comparing it to the more recently updated forms of Tomorrowland around the world (personally, I think FL's is the best) i agree that SM could use a little updated look...but for pete's sake, no neon paint, PLEASE! if you're going to make it look tacky, then just leave it like it is...imo.
i highly doubt they will ever put in a new land in the MK...or at least they shouldn't. it would totally mess up the whole hub/wheel design! the park would become inbalaced and just not cool.
the only things i see that need updating are the vacant buildings. 20,000 Leagues, old skyway buildings, etc, etc, etc. and i think they should start looking for ways to rebuild CoP once the old motor runs down completely.
other than that, MK doesn't need anything. maybe some fresh coats of paint in some areas, but other than that, no biggest. have you even seen the crowds there lately? it was PACKED Nov. 24! attendance obviously isn't dropping. if it is, then not drastically.

AK, however, probably should open up a new land. it pretty much has a hub/wheel design too, but it also has the room to add another land. but i agree with Michael; i doubt anything major will be done to AK in the near future with E:E on the way.

but yeah...there's something about Disney that has lost its spark...but honestly, when i was there for Thanksgiving, somehow i felt it come back a little. so there is still hope!

I can't speak for AK - haven't visited enough to give any really feedback

As for Tomorrowland, the word of the day needs to be Maintaince... really. I hate to see that a place as large as WDW lets attractions get so run down ....

I must take a moment now... :(

Epcot is getting Project Gemini because of its slumping attendance and the fact that there's nothing to do there. I don't believe Magic Kingdom needs it though, because of its high attendance and fun factor. Animal Kingdom desperately needs it though. The Studios could use it as well.

Though I disagree on the fact that MK needs a Project Gemini I do believe that I needs some work. A new land and something on the 20K Lagoon is needed, as well as a rehab of Tomorrowland and then Mickey's Toontown Fair just needs to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up as Mickey's Toontown, such as in Disneyland.

The only thing I would like to be seen done to Tomorrowland (besides some maitenance) is bulldozing the speedway. Use the area and the 20k site for a new land, an expansion of Toontown or new attractions for both areas.

The only thing I can think of that Tomorrowland truly needs (in addition to keeping TimeKeeper and COP open daily of course) is a show in the theater. It's depressing to see that theatre space sitting empty. They do a Buzz Lightyear show at Disneyland's tomorrowland in a MUCH smaller space, surely they could come up with something along those lines (or even better) for MK. Heck, some kind of "Kids in the Kingdom" or "Mouseketeers" type show would be better than nothing. Maybe something based on "Treasure Planet"?

A show called "Mickey's Twas The Night Before Christmas" is currently running in the Galaxy Place Theatre. There's also been talk about enclosing it, making it into a Hyperion-style theatre. I disagree on that. They can use that space for a new ride. I want to see a 3D attraction.

Actually, the Hyperion at DCA is VERY cool. The front is basically just a painted facade, and the entrance is around the side. We saw Aladdin there last Friday when I was out in L.A. for Thanksgiving. I'd LOVE to see something like that in Tomorrowland!

they did the same show in the theater this time last year. but THAT'S the problem. that's pretty much the only show they do all year. at least, it's the only one i've ever heard of. every other time of the year i go, it's completely empty. so it's pretty much pointless except for one time a year. so, i think they either need to make a permenant show for the theater, or take it out all together. it's not doing TL any good the way it is now. since it's beside Buzz, i think a Buzz show would be great, and i think it would go over really well too! or a futuristic Mickey in space kind of thing.

Nothing to do at Epcot? Wow, next week we'll be enjoying our 16th time of doing nothing.

Yeah right! Nothing to do!

You can say it has nothing for you! To do and see everything, it would probably take 2-2 1/2 days!

And attendance isn't dropping any more than a normal park (based on facts: America's 3rd most attended theme park!)

The reason for Project Gemini is to "update" the park with new exciting up-to-date things for the public to enjoy and to increase park attendance! (yes, even more)

I don't understand all the talk about how awful Epcot's attendence is....it is consistently the 2nd most visited theme park in the world....1'st obviously being MK.

I have no idea about attendance numbers. But there's been a shift in priority at EPCOT; thrills in lieu of exhibition and learning.

Its not only evident at Disney theme parks but also at Museums(science, art etc..) around the country.

When EPCOT was dreamt up and built, it was done by imagineers who grew up on worlds fairs as the main "model" to go by. These days, the public doesn't attend museums/exhibitions unless their children go as part of a class trip. Its sad really; that as a whole, we'd rather go on a ride that exerts G forces on us, than learn about what creates them etc..

Now this isn't to say that Horizons was a ridable science fair, but still the emphasis was on learning about scientific and technological advances in the future while going by at 2 mph.
