A Problem (Haunted Mansion in my proposed Disney theme park)

As many of you already know, I am currently in the process of creating a proposal for a 6th Disney theme park, if/when it should be built, much like many others here on this forum. Unfortunately, I ran into a problem with The Haunted Mansion. I was planning on putting Haunted Mansion in Frontierland (which seemed the most suitable to me, IMHO).
However, Weird One informed me in a IM coversation tonight that there was a tradition to place HM in a different land in each Disney park. As for Frontierland, that was already taken by Disneyland Paris. WDW has HM in Liberty Square, Disneyland in New Orleans Square, and Tokyo DL has theirs in Fantasyland; plus it reported that Hong Kong DL will have theirs in Adventureland.

Therefore, it looks like I don't have much of a place for Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom of my proposed Disney theme park! Discoveryland and Toontown would never work, not sure about Critter Country, and there really is not enough room on Main Street without a major revamping of the area.

However, I could create a new land; much like Liberty Square and New Orleans Square. Incidentally, my original draft of my MK park did include Liberty Square, but this was taken out since it made the park too much like WDW's MK. Weird One and I did discuss a few options; among them, Phantom Square, Sleepy Hollow Square, and Colonial Square. Phantom and Sleepy Hollow seemed to dark to me to fit into the Magic Kingdom, and Colonial Square seemed too much like Liberty Square. If all else fails, Haunted Mansion could be put in the parking lot, but I can't possibly imagine that would even REMOTELY work!!!!! :D

If anyone has any ideas, questions, or comments, please post, since I really could use your help with this! I look forward to hearing from you! :)

Well, from official news I've heard the hong kong disney isn't getting a haunted mansion, at least not yet so you can put your HM in adventureland! :animwink:

Now, I've heard rumors that the Haunted Mansion is in development for Adventureland. I'd still put it in Adventureland, I don't see why not, I did in my resort ;). - The WeirdOne :D

The Haunted Mansion in Adventureland!?!?!?

I say that is insane. It would never fit with the theme. It'd have to be "The Haunted Treehouse".

If I could get a theme for ToT at my adventureland (building it on RCT 2) I think the HM is no problem at all!

Two areas like this that I have proposed before:

1)London Square:

A darker version of London, very gothic area maybe with a scaled replica of Big Ben, a Gothic Type Haunted Mansion with lots of Gargoyles on the facade would be unique.

An obvious second attraction could be some sort of a Mystery Based show/walkthrough around Sherlock Holmes, and the Thames river could provide an avenue for the common river boat attraction in this area

2)Baltimore Square:

Again this would present a slightly creepier setting and the home of Edgar Alan Poe could not be any more appropriate for a Haunted Mansion attraction. A second attraction here could be a walkthrough or if you are so bold an interactive darkride though some of the greatest pieces that Edgar Allan Poe has ever written.

And I would have to say that you did not think that out very well, an old deserted colonial mansion over grown in the heart of a dark jungle would be more than perfect for a haunted mansion.

If you ever read the back story for the Jungle Cruise (which was written after the fact, but regardless) there would be alot of room to actually include this Mansion in it.

As the Jungle Cruise passes it could easily be well worked into the beginning of the script that, "there on the hill is the abandoned estate of Colonel Gracy who helped colonize this area, although after his mysterious disappearance only the bravest of souls step foot near that house " much like Indy is worked in at the DL Jungle Cruise (or so I re-call it being)

The whole area really is supposed to be a imperialistic jungle theme when you get right down to it clearly judeing from the Jungle Cruise and many of the street facades, now certain things here and there have skewed from the theme, but really it would fit more than fine.

You just have to be able to look at it in a bit of different light

Is this in the actual Jungle Cruise storyline?

Adventureland sounds like my best bet for The Haunted Mansion. However, I have heard conflicting reports that Hong Kong Disneyland will be getting HM in Advenutreland and that Hong Kong won't have Haunted Mansion at all. I wonder if/how Haunted Mansion could fit into Main Street, USA, if at all. If anyone has any ideas for HM in Main Street, USA, please post.

So far, the Magic Kingdom section of my propsed Disney theme park has Main Street, USA; Adventureland; Fantasyland; Frontierland; Discoveryland (a slightly modified Tomorrowland); Critter Country; and Mickey's Toontown. Throwing in another "land" would throw everything out of whack, IMHO, so with that, no new "square" or other type lands will be added.

Thanks so much for helping me with this! I really do appreciate it a lot! :)

If you look at my Disneyland Australlia thread, I put it on Main Street. But I do like the Adventureland idea. And they will eventually run out of lands to put HM in, there is nothing to stop you putting it where you want

If you were to look at my ideas on how to improve Hong Kong Disneyland, you would notice that one of them called for a Haunted Mansion to be put in Adventureland. Here's the backstory as to how HM can fit into Adventureland:

The British government opened exotic tours of the jungle (tie into the Jungle River Cruise), but tourists soon began to die from Jungle Fever. Parlaiment built a tudor-style house to house Professor Roger Parshall and his young family. Parshall was supposed to find a cure to the jungle fever and he soon began to do many experiments. The natives became angry because they thought that Parshall was disrespecting their gods and nature. The natives got together and had a meeting where the local voodoo witch doctor put a curse on the professor. The curse did not work and the professor continued his experiments that the natives felt disrespect their gods. So the natives all vowed revenge. One day, while Parshall goes out into the jungle, the natives raided his home, murdering his wife and children on his youngest son's birthday. When the professor came home to find his dead family, he felt so ashamed of himself that he went up to the attic and hung himself from the rafters (no windows, no doors - why don't you try my way out in stretching rooms). After Professor Parshall killed himself, the house sat vacant as the jungle overtook the exterior of it. To this day, the young family continues to haunt the inside along with 995 ghosts that have come from all over the world. The Ballroom scene is rethemed to the son's birthday party, and you go through the professor's laboratory instead of the Attic. That's pretty much the base story.

As if that wasn't enough, here's a complete verbal tour of my idea for HKDL's Haunted Mansion. Just click here to view: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showpost.php?p=1974669&postcount=29.

So, in regards to your question about whether or not the Haunted Mansion could fit in Adventureland, the answer is yes.

Also in my plans for Disneyland Berlin, Phantom Manor will be put at the end of Main Street as a buffer zone between MS and Frontierland. Did you know that original plans were to put the Haunted Mansion on Main Street before it finally went New Orleans Square instead?
