A million questions about...

Fort Wilderness cabins. It will be our first stay coming up on July 2-5th and I have about a million questions. Hopefully this is the right place to put this.

1. Can we bring tiki torches for outside our cabin? I chatted with a CM online and she said yes. My brother didn't believe me, so he asked someone new & that CM said no! Have any of you ever saw or put flame torches out?

2. Can you really bring your own smores kit to the campfire sing-a-long? I have no interest in busting out my nifty thrifty food stuff if it's frowned upon!

3. Has anyone watched 4th of July fireworks on the beach at FW? Tell me all there is to know, please!

1. I highly doubt having an open flame like that in FL is a wise thing to do. I would just get the candles that are in buckets. Much safer. If one of those torches falls, the dry grounds in FL can spark a massive fire quickly.

2. I would say yes. You do not have to buy the Disney ones, but you can. Get your own from WalMart for much cheaper.

3. No clue. I would never be there for this time of the year. I am going a week later.

Okay, I don't know about the tiki torches but we brought our citronella candles in a little metal bucket and no one said anything about it. You should be able to bring your own food to the campfire. I don't know if I can tell you all there is to know; but I will give you some stuff. You can see the fireworks from MK every night on the beach. The Electric Light Pageant pass by the beach at about 9:45 nightly. Viewings for both of these activities is very popular so plan on bringing your own chair, sitting in the sand, or a blanket as the beach chairs get filled up fast. You will be there at one of the busiest time of the year so plan on that when using the internal buses. If you plan on having a golf cart, you should make your reservations if you have not done so. There is a web site called allears.net and under Walt Disney World they have a tab for accommodations. Click on that, scroll down to Fort Wilderness Campground and there is a photo slide show, lots of info and even a listing of the kitchen items that come in the cabin. There is also Fort Fiends web site for lovers of the "fort" You can find all sorts of info there too. Have a wonderful trip.

1. Every official thing I have says no open flames. If you do bring them the worst thing that will happen is you will be told to put them out.

2. Yes.

3. I would call the view of the fireworks from Ft Wilderness somewhere between fair to poor. A place you can get to with a much better view is the Ticket and Transportation Center.

I'm not overly worried about sparking a fire because the Orlando area isn't as dry as our area right now (N. FL), and we always keep an eye out when a fire is going! We just want it for when we're sitting around outside on our porch eating watermelon or whatever. Besides, 1 member of our party works for the FL Division of Forestry & we camp (actual camping) a lot. Fire safety is what he obsesses over. IDK why.. I just want some tiki torches going! I'll prob just stick to the citranella (sp?) candles. Even if I'm not 100% sure they work.

and why would you never be there this time of year? Is it that bad?!?

@pixiesteno we did reserve a golf cart! I heard that was a MUST. I'm going to check out that other site now, thank you!

Candles are probably prohibited by the same rules that prohibit the torches.

There's going to be a gajillion people there.

We've been at FW for Halloween the past two years and were not allowed candles for our pumpkin, I imagine the same rule applies for torches. I personally have never even noticed bugs, let alone been bothered by them, but I've never been there during the summer.
We always bring our own s'more kit because my son can't have milk chocolate. A lot of people bring their own, it's much more economical
I don't know about the fireworks, my children are young so we're usually in bed by then.
