The family of Stephen Slesinger, who bought the merchandising rights to the character Winnie the Pooh in 1929, claimed Tuesday that the Walt Disney Co., by failing to report at least $3 billion in Pooh-related revenue since 1983, currently owes it $35 million. According to today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times, Slesinger's widow and daughter maintain that Disney never paid them royalties from the sale of video games, videocassettes and DVDs that feature Pooh characters. Disney says that sales of such merchandise were never covered in earlier agreements -- presumably written before video games, VCRs and DVDs were invented.
