A little gripe about reservations...

Because of my job and because sometimes I change dates of my stay to get better rates, I may need to change or cancel my reservations multiple times before an actual stay.

I LOVE the convenience of the Internet to be able to make, modify or cancel hotel reservations. I have been able to modify or cancel reservations online for every single hotel I've stayed at...except for WDW resorts.

Why oh why does WDW insist you call and have to stay on hold just to be able to modify or cancel a resort reservation when it would be SOOOO much more convenient to be able to do it online on their site?

Is there a good reason for this? Some have said they make it hard to cancel in hopes that you won't cancel, but the reality is if you need to cancel you need to cancel. So why can't WDW hotel reservations be cancelled on their site?

This is my complaint about dining reservations. We're sometimes unsure of the number of people we'll have for a reservation so we go with the highest number, then call in if we need to lower that number. It would be so much easier if we could just update our reservation online.

The only thing I can think of is that they want you to call and verify who you are to prevent anyone from cancelling someone else's package/room. That's the only real reason I could see for it.

I was told exactly that by WDW as well as a travel agent, whether or not it is the "REAL" reason is another thing. I believe it serves this purpose well. I would not want anyone else to mess with my reservation without withstanding the interminable phone wait.

I'll concede that making sure the people who are holding the reservation are the same ones who are modifying it IS important, but that can also be done online by asking the user to verify the confirmation number, require them to give part of the credit card no. used to make the reservation, etc. This is what many other hotels require for identification before allowing someone to change a reservation online.

Perhaps security is a reason--and I can't fault WDW for that, but I still think they could securely require enough info through an online method to ensure the correct party is modifying or cancelling their reservation.
