July 14th, 2005.

One Day.

Two parks.

One park-hopper.

Oh yes, boys and girls. I had ONE day to experience Disneyland for the first time at quite possibly the biggest peak of the year, being just mere days from THE anniversary!

We arrived and parked about 7:40. Park opened at 8:00. By the time we picked up our will call tickets, it was just a bit past 8:00. I really wanted to be there to see rope drop, but it just didn't happen. Standing outside the train station, I felt the tears welling up in my eyes. Walking through the tunnel and Town Square I was holding them back. Then I hit Main Street, saw Sleeping Beauty Castle and just lost it. I bawled like a baby. I couldn't believe I had actually made it there. I bought my gold ears and cried the whole time. The CM who checked me out was really sweet. After regaining my composure, we veered left and grabbed a Fastpass for Indiana Jones.

Then we rode Pirates. Wow. I was completely blown away. I had heard how DL's was better... but I didn't realize how MUCH better. Absolutely brilliant. New Orleans Square is very elaborate and quite charming. Haunted Mansion next. The same in many ways. The Leota effect was mind blowing. Unfortunately through the whole ride, some dumb buns decided to ignore the camera lighting warnings that were going on throughout the WHOLE RIDE! "Sir, PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAMERA LIGHTING!" Must have heard it 5 times... quite annoying. Next was Splash. DL's Splash seems to go MUCH faster than WDW's. I think WDW's Brer Rabbit is cuter, though. ;)

Next was Indy. Awesome effects! I think it just blows Dinosaur away, IMO! I couldn't believe the ending! We stopped at the Dole Whip stand and I grabbed a Dole Float. They put cherries and little umbrellas in theirs! It looks so cute! Then we crossed the park over to Buzz... which was fairly comparable to WDW's. DL has the removable guns which makes things a lot easier! Also, the guns light up when you hit a target! Helpful!

Then, we headed over to DCA where we immediately grabbed Fastpasses for Soarin' over California and Grizzly River Run. Tower of Terror was the first thing we hit there. Slightly different, but still awesome! Then we grabbed lunch at Award Weiners. I had an Italian Sausage thingie.. pretty yummy! We headed for Paradise Pier where much to our dismay we found California Screamin' was down for repairs... so we got in line for the Sun Wheel. I was dissapointed that it wasn't nearly as scary as I had come to believe from reading some of your comments! But it still provided some breathtaking views. By the time we got off the wheel, Screamin' was back up running, so we grabbed fastpasses for that. Then our time had come for Soarin'. The ride itself is the same as Epcot, but the queues at Epcot are a bit more elaborate. Screamin' was next... and was a lot of fun! A really long smooth coaster that gave up some great views.

We saw MuppetVision, which is basically the same as MGM. The theatre effects at the end seemed a bit better at DCA, however. Grizzly River Run was our last ride at DCA. I've never done Kali, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was definitely fun!

Then, we headed back over to Disneyland...

Thanx for sharing RAINFULLY!!! :sohappy:

Sounds like a great trip! Funny how you can get so much done at DL with the parks so close to each other!

I can't wait to go back in September!

Look forward to the rest of your report!

Glad you enjoyed your Disneyland experience. I hope you had a chance to see Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams and Remember Dreams Come True!

It was about 4:00pm when we got back to Disneyland... and the crowds were in full force! After a quick shop stop on Main Street (much to my reluctance) we walked through the castle and into Fantasyland. The very first thing I did was hop in line for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I was so excited! I never got to experience when it was at WDW, having skipped over it in all my trips. So I'm very happy to say that I have taken a trip on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!

Next was It's a Small World... I'm sorry but I LOVE this ride. The exterior was even more beautiful than I imagined... and HUGE! My favorite part of the ride itself was the underwater scene with the mermaids... how cute!!

Then we went to Toontown to see Mickey... his house was great! Sooooo much detail... I described it as more "stately" than the WDW counterpart. The Big Cheese himself was dressed as a bandleader to see us. After taking in Toontown, it was time to conquer the Matterhorn! The wait said 40 minutes... LIES! After standing in the same spot for about 5 minutes... the queue started scootin'... and we were on the ride in about 15. This was a lot more fun than I had imagined it... the cars are so roomy and I was sliding around the whole time!

It was then time to fill our empty bellies, so we ate at the closest place... a spot in Tomorrowland called Club Buzz. I had a spicey chicken sandwich, which was pretty dissapointing... basically a large chicken strip on a huge bun. After dinner it was time for the Parade of Dreams... I couldn't believe all the people on the curb waiting for the parade (the second showing of the day). The floats were beautiful, but the parade seemed to be a little short. There is one point in the parade where it makes a stop and they play a clip from Walt's dedication speech and eveyone dances. Well our stop happened right in between the Beauty and the Beast float and the Pinocchio float... so it was kind of funny to see forks and knives dancing with dolls.

After the parade, I went Jungle Cruisin'! They have no temple, but they do have piranhas! Then I went back over to Fantasyland to get in whatever line was shortest... and Pinocchio won. It was cute!

It was getting dark, and time to get situated in the hub for Remember... Dreams Come True! We were right in front of Partners... a pretty good spot! Some of the ground effect were hidden behind the trees, but we could see Tinkerbell (WOWOWOWOWOW!!!) and all the perimiters. The beginning of the show is just like Wishes, with Julie Andrews narrating and tying things into the 50th. Then they go into segments celebrating some former and current attractions of Disneyland. I described Remember as making Wishes look like a couple of sparklers. Fireworks came from EVERYWHERE... and there were castle effects, lazers, fire, and Tinkerbell makes TWO apperances!

After being blown away by Remember, I contemplated watching Fantasmic... but instead hopped aboard the Train. At Disneyland, everyone sits sideways in the train facing towards the inside of the park... how odd! After circling the park, I joined a handful of people for the Tiki Room... there were MAYBE about 15 of us in the show (Fantasmic was going on at this time) It was nice to see it the way it used to be!

And THEN... I walked into Tomorrowland... and there it stood before me.. the newly re-opened Space Mountain... yes folks, I went for it... one day before the official opening! And I sure am glad I did! You cannot see any part of the ride from the queue, thus the ride itself is much darker... and all you can see is stars! There were a couple of effects that DL has that WDW lacks... it was just a great ride!

By the time I got off Space Mountain, it was 12:30am. The park was closed. After a quick stop at some Main Street shops for a couple of last minute purchases, I turned around and said goodbye.

I was completely in awe of Disneyland. It was like expereincing something I knew so well for the first time. I would have liked much more time to explore and take pictures, and experience the things I didn't get to. I hated having to choose between Fantasmic and doing other things.

Disneyland seems to do things bigger and better (except the Castle, of course...) Everything is much more elaborate. Someday I definitely want to go back. Every WDW fan needs to experience Disneyland. It's amazing!

They have at least 1 train where you face forward. Everytime I rode the train though, it was a sideways one. I think the sideways seating works better for viewing Primeavil World and the Grand Canyon.

Great report, thanks for doing it! WOW, you crammed a lot into one day. When we made our pilgrimage to DL, it took us two days to do that much! I'm glad you had fun!

Thanks! It was a careful blend of planning (getting there at opening... 8:am), Fastpasses, and going where the crowds aren't. (Leaving Disneyland late morning and staying at DCA until afternoon)

You got a lot done in one day! I was at DL that day too and it was crazy! We also watched the second parade of the day and loved it! I was so sad when I left the park last night! But I get to go to WDW for two days in less than two weeks! Yippee!!!

I know exactly what you mean! I just got back from Disneyland yesterday. I was BLOWN AWAY at how magical it was and like you said, how things seemed to be done on a larger and more elaborate scale. Soarin', Space Mountain, Remember... Dreams Come True, Indiana Jones Adventure, Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular, and Block Party Bash all amazed me. I can't WAIT to go back again! :D
