A few more Disneyland questions

I'm going to Disneyland in mid-August, while there I wanted to take advantage of the "free roam" characters. I'm making a Disneyland itinerary now, and I was intending to stay in the Main Street U.S.A. and Fantasyland area until the early afternoon before we get on the train to New Orleans Square. Do you know where most of the characters gather? My mission is to get as many autographs and pictures as possible. Also is it a good idea to spend nighttime at Critter Country/New Orleans Square/ Frontierland in the night? I hear it gets pretty congested during Fantasmic. I'll post my itinerary online as soon as the final plans come together. I want your opinion. I want to make sure I have the perfect Disneyland experience.

I guess the majority of characters can be seen on Main Street, but then again, it's also random because the characters walk around by themselves. Pooh and the gang can be seen in Critter Country, Tiana in New Orleans Square, Aladdin and Jasmine in Adventureland, etc. Alice and the Mad Hatter play Musical Chairs on Main Street, and they usually meet and greet guests afterwards. Characters in DCA are usually always seen in the same area.

Critter Country/Frontierland/New Orleans Square can get a little crowded at night but they're the best at night. I wouldn't totally skip them at night.
