Pre-Trip A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes Pre-Trip Report

Just made plans last week to head back to the World again. This will be our 5th time going and my first sharing it with this board. I've read so many glowing reports and am so awed at everyone's friendships, the camaraderie, that I am so glad to be joining in on the discussion about making plans and the actual visit itself. This is a 1st time Pre-Trip Report for me, so please bear with me. I'm new to this so I hope that I won't bore anyone with my ramblings. Thanks for coming along with me on this journey.

Well, it's a good place to start at the beginning so here goes.

THE CAST:

Myself and DH

w3LbKyh.jpg

At our favorite place in the whole world....Disneyland on the Tram. We used to be yearly AP'ers and would go at least once a month. So very familer with DL, WDW, not so much as we go only about once every 4-5 years.

kexIjOx.jpg

Goofing off on the Tram, yes, that's me with DH looking not as impressed!

So about a month ago, DH says to me in passing: "You know, maybe we should go back to Walt Disney World again...what about this winter after the New Year?"

I was like.........

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was like totally out of the blue. Was not sure about our finances this year too but with our move back up to the Pacific Northwest and him making the same kind of money that he was back down in So Cal, we could actually swing it! I was also like......

So I'm glad to be going again with DH...woo-hoo!

THE WHERE:

The POLY! Of course. The Poly is our "home" when we go and we've stayed there 3 times for our last trips. The second time we went we stayed at the GF but DH didn't care to much for it. He didn't like all the "froo-froo" he called it. I loved it, all the Victorian charm but to each his own. Maybe if it's wasn't so expensive he would have liked it more. So all the rest of the times we've been, (3) we've stayed at the Poly. There's just something about the Poly that's so relaxing! I loved walking through the doors and smelling and hearing and feeling the atmosphere. It just says: "It's your time now to relax and not worry about life for 8 days." We have only always been for week long trips. Never over 8 days, one week. Also with the constructions at the Poly not sure how we will handle that with no pool to go to, and the whole place torn up. We hope that most of the work will be about halfway done by then.Would really like to visit Trader Sam's when it opens but we have a feeling that it will be a exact duplicate of the Trader Sam's at the DL Hotel. I just hope that when it opens that it will be larger than the DL one! DL's is so small and even though I like the effects, the menu was not that great (small items) but the drinks were FAB!

THE WHEN:

We are going the 1st week of Feb, from Feb 1st to the 8th-the 5th Trip. We wanted to see how the crowds were and if they were a bit lighter and we are both cold weather freaks, no humidity or heat for us. We just can't handle it. The cold is more our style, so if we have to bring out the gloves we will. Just a bit afraid that some of our favorite rides will be down for refurbishment. I hope Splash is open and SM too!

More to come with our Dining Plans!

I would share your concern about Poly and construction, but if that is your Disney home then that is truly the best choice and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. They are allowing you to go to Blizzard Beach which isn't bad for a pool option. Love the Price is Right video. Following along.

Yes, although there is going to be major constructions, I'm still glad that we are staying there. We are going to make the best of a sad situation and try to turn it around so we still can have fun and feel like what we paid for is for the best.

Looks good! I hope you have a magical trip! :)

Thanks again! More to come soon!

So here's our Dining Plan Reservations! I'm just bursting at the seams to get started and watch the months fly by!

This time we added some new places as well as old favorites. I'm really looking forward to our Character Dining as this is the first time that we are going to eat with the characters! I've never done that before. DH is not too enthused about characters, he kinda is uncomfortable when they come over to visit at the tables while eating. We've had characters come around at DL and he just puts up with it, but would NEVER get a photo taken with one of them. Ooooo...party pooper! But this time around in all the Parks and at our Chraracter buffets we are getting photos, even if it's just me in the pics! It may look like I'm traveling alone, (DH is very camera-shy) but who cares? Going to enjoy every minute of it!

OUR DINING PLANS:

SUNDAY, 2-1
Dinner: O'hana 9:15pm

MONDAY, 2-2
Dinner: Liberty Tree Tavern 6:20pm

TUESDAY, 2-3
Lunch: Rose and Crown, 12pm
Dinner: Le Cellier 7pm

WEDNSDAY, 2-4:
Lunch: Sci-Fi Diner 11:45am
Dinner: Kona Cafe 7pm

THURSDAY, 2-5:
Lunch: Tusker House 12:55pm
Dinner: O'hana 7pm

FRIDAY, 2-6:
Lunch: Akershus 12:30pm
Dinner: Be Our Guest 7pm

SATURDAY: 2-7:
Lunch: Raglan Rd. 12:30pm
Dinner: M.K. Dessert Party 6pm

So I have some feelings about these choices. I hope some of them will become new favorites!

SUNDAY, 2-1
Dinner: O'hana 9:15pm

We always arrive on a Sunday night after a long day of flying. It's hard to get a reservation that we don't feel like we're being rushed to get checked into the hotel and finally make it to our dinner. We are going to leave sometime before 6am on that Sunday and fly from Portland, OR to Orlando. It will take us about 8 hours of travel time. With the time change that puts us at arriving at the hotel around 8pm or 8:30pm. So I made our ressies for 9:15pm, even though the fireworks will be on at this time, right?

DH and I LOVE O'hana! It's been our tradition to eat here on our arrival day every trip since staying at the Poly. I'm sad that they took the chicken off the menu, I really wanted to try that again. I can't wait until they set bread and salad down before me! I'm going to be like: "NOM, NOM, NOM!!!" My mouth is already watering!

MONDAY, 2-2
Dinner: Liberty Tree Tavern 6:20pm

We've also done LTT before on our last visits. I like the atmosphere and I have a thing for American history so it's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the park and just sit back and relax for a while. I'm also sad that they dont have the Ooey Gooey Toffee dessert served at dinner. The pics of it just make me drool that I've seen! Wow! I really wish that I could have that sometime.

TUESDAY, 2-3
Lunch: Rose and Crown, 12pm
Dinner: Le Cellier 7pm

Tuesday is our Epcot day. We've been to the Rose and Crown before and enjoyed it alot. DH has a thing for pubs and beer so we have to stop there at least one trip. I loved having the Fish and Chips but maybe will branch out to try some Shepard's Pie or Bangers this time around. We've never been to Le Cellier so I'm really hoping this place will live up to all the hype I've been reading about all these years. Can't wait to try the Cheddar Cheese Beer soup! Also wondering about the atmosphere, is it too crowded in a large dining room, or are there smaller more intimte dining rooms? Never been there before so this will be fun!

WEDNSDAY, 2-4:
Lunch: Sci-Fi Diner 11:45am
Dinner: Kona Cafe 7pm

OMG! Sci-Fi Diner again! I know that the food's mediocre at best but I LOVE the Sci-Fi Diner. I love sitting in the dark watching old clips and cartoon movies. DH and I are MST3K buffs and we love watching old bad movies! I love that you can get a car to yourself and the whole atmosphere I just love. I always wished that they would bring the Sci-Fi Diner concept back to Disneyland. There is an old buidling in DCA, in the backlot that used to have QU counter sevice, but I forgot the name of it. Was it Hollywood and Dine like in DHS??? It was only open there at the location for a short time, only about 2 years, I think. It was a pretty large food court and I think it would be perfect place to transport the resturant concept into DCA. Kona Cafe is one of our favorites as well but we don't have it on the plans for breakfast. Gong to try to add it on one of our days coming up. Maybe on Sat. morning.

THURSDAY, 2-5:
Lunch: Tusker House 12:55pm
Dinner: O'hana 7pm

I can't wait to visit Tusker House. I've read good things about the breakfast not so hot about lunch. We usually never do buffets so this should be fun! Also Mickey and Pals will be there in Safari gear. Can you say...OMG!? LOL! Going to get tons of pics of this. Hope the foods as good there too. Finally another night at O'hana, I may change this later if we plan to go back into one of the Parks too.

FRIDAY, 2-6:
Lunch: Akershus 12:30pm
Dinner: Be Our Guest 7pm

Lunch at Epcot will be Akershus which I hope will also be fun with the Princesses. Again, more photo opps! And, I got Be Our Guest! I was totally floored when I clicked on the website and it came up for me. I booked at exactly 180 days out and I'm on the West Coast so it had been open several hours earlier but I GOT IT! So jazzed and happy about this! Crowds are at the lowest point at this time of year so maybe that's why it was so easy to find tables for. But I had no problem booking it. I guess I was very lucky this time around. I really feel for people who can't get their ressies. Being on the computer at 6am is not fun at all, or even at 3am. I get my ressies at 7am Pacific Time. It was a challenge but I got everything that I wanted with little to no fuss at all.

SATURDAY: 2-7:
Lunch: Raglan Rd. 12:30pm
Dinner: M.K. Dessert Party 6pm

DH is pretty jazzed about going to Raglan Rd the Irish Pub at DTD. As I said before he's a fan of Irish Pubs and beer so it's a given that he will probably like going here. We have never eaten here before. I saw some to die for pics of the food there on the food blog theard so it should be great. Also got the MK Dessert Party too for Wishes that night. I've read good things and bad things about it, but it should be a good way to close out our vacation!

Now to pure silliness. I'm not too overweight but I'm on a diet. It's all going to go to hell once I'm there though, I know. I made a list of "FOODS I WANT TO TRY" so I know that it's crazy. LOL!!! But after staring at the Food Blog thread I just knew that I would have to try these things during my trip. Calories be dammed!

M.K.: Le Fou's Brew, "Grey Stuff" (BOG)
EPCOT: The Cronut!, School Bread, Toffee Dessert (R+C) Cheddar Cheese Soup (LC) Ice Cream Martini (LADG)
HOLLYWOOD STUIDOS: Starring Rolls Cupcakes
ANIMAL KINGDOM: Spiked Dole Whip Coconut Rum
ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE: ZEBRA DOMES!!!!!

Do you think that I'm crazy for posting thoughts about foods that I'm going to eat? For the Zebra Domes I'm going to get my butt over to the AKL just to have these again. I thought that I died and went to heaven after tasting one bite of those. I may get 2 just to take back and have in the room. Zebra Domes are my favorite dessert in the World.

Well, that's it for now. More to come later on. I still have months away to wait but pretty soon I'll be chiming in about the Magic Bands and other things. Thanks for reading and following!

Looking forward to reading about your plans. We have a trip scheduled, starting the day you leave.

Oooo...wow! Hope the weather's not too cold for both of us! Glad to know that you are heading out there too around the same time.

You are definitely not crazy to list foods you want to try! I had a list before our July trip! Some things on our lists were similar. LOVED the Cronut and spiked Dole whip with coconut rum. I wanna go back and have another right now!

Love the ADR choices. Everything seems to be set with some good thoughts. Remember to enjoy, especially with all the hard work you put into planning for the upcoming trip.
