A couple questions

This is my second time going to WDW and were staying at the pop and we took the magical express offer and our flight is at 7am and we arrive at 10:30 and check in is at 3 and we were planning to go straight to the park when we get off the bus and come back for check in.Would we have to do anything special with our bags or will the magical express take care of everything even before we check in and where would we put our carry ons because I am gonna bring my laptop onto the plane to watch movies and such and I was wondering what would I do with the carrying case for the laptop because I don't really want to carry a laptop around Disney. And the 2nd question is would July 16-23 be a bad time to go because my family doesn't want to be going at a really crowded time.

From what I understand when you get to your resort, you'll go in, check in and they'll go ahead and give you your key to the world card which will have your tickets, dining, etc. that you may have purchased and they'll give you a number to call to find out when your room is ready. You can leave your carry on baggage there and everything will be delivered to your room when it's ready. I think this is the general idea. This is what we are planning on doing next week as we have an early flight as well and are looking forward to spending most of the day at the parks.

If you have Annual Passes [or already have some form of ticket] you could go straight to the parks, but if your tickets are part of your package you'll have to check in first. I'd recommend checking in regardless.

They don't actually assign a specific room until you check in, so DME won't be able to deliver your bags until you have. They would just store your bags until you have a room assigned, so it's not the end of the world. Since the bus takes you to the resort, you're there anyway. Check in, you'll either be assigned a room on the spot [it may even be ready, in which case you could drop off your carry-ons] or given a number to call later to find out what room you'll be in. By doing so, the DME "magic" of having your bags in the room when you come back from the parks still happens.

If your room isn't ready, you can leave your carry-on luggage with Bell Services.

As the others have said, you go to your resort first; check in time may officially 3 pm, but we have had our room ready as early as 9 am. After your flight you may want to freshen up a bit before you hit the parks. :lookaroun

To answer your second question, summer is crowded. The kids are out of school and many people, ok thousands of people, plan their vacations for the summer. We have gone in June, July and August and the least crowded of the 3 months is late August when many schools start going back. The only time I know that is more crowded than the summer months is the weeks right around Christmas.

The biggest thing that we screwed up last year was the Magical express. Although I had known, I forgot that we wouldn't see our checked in bags for several hours. I didn't have shorts, etc in my carry on.

Make sure you put whatever you need to visit the parks in your carry on. It took me a while to find sunblock in a small enough container to be acceptable for air travel, but I did it! We're not going to make the same mistake again.

I'm not going to spend the first 4 hours of my trip stuck in my hotel room this time!

First, I recommend you check in first, then head to the parks. If your room is not ready, you can leave your carry-ons with the bell service. This is what I usually do being that I also have an early flight and arrive before the 3pm check in time and my room is not available.
Second, if you dont want to go with it is crowded I dont recommend going in July. I go for two weeks in July and it is always crowded. Personally I dont mind the crowds it never really bothers me. So if you and your family hate crowds I would try maybe either the beginning of June or the middle to end of August. Disney usuallly give good deals for August.
Hope this helps!

You got some very good information here.

The only thing I'm not sure of, though, is about your carry-ons. I know for sure you can check them with Bell Services if your room isn't ready yet. But I question whether they will be automatically delivered to your room along with your DME luggage.

The Bell Services CMs who do the baggage deliveries within the resort are pre-tipped by Disney for the DME luggage (that's why you don't have to be present when your DME luggage arrives). But I'm not sure anyone wants to deliver carry-on luggage to you without the possibility of a tip.

One of the little known but very real perks of DME can help you get into your room earlier. When you check in at the airport's DME Welcome Center, the computer sends a message to your resort that you have checked in and will arrive soon. The resort then looks at your reservation and pre-assigns you a room if one is available that matches your reservation. Even though you're still at the airport, no one else can claim that room -- it's yours if you want it. So if someone arrives at the resort by car 2 minutes later, and they have the same reservation profile as you, AND if yours was the last available room of its type at that time, that person will be told their room isn't ready yet. You arrive by DME bus 45 minutes later and get your room, while that other person might still be waiting for a similar room to become available.

And by the way, you're not TIED to that room. When you check in, if there's something you don't like about it, you're free to ask the CM for a different room, but keep in mind that the "other" room you ask for might not be ready yet.

We too take a very early flight. We check in when we get there and it just so happens every time we have gone we were lucky enough to always have our room ready when we got there. So we were able to freshen up, drop off our carry-ons and head to the parks. But just in case, we dress in what we want to wear at the parks if our room isn't ready. So when we lived in Michigan and went to WDW in Feb. we got some weird looks from other travelers.

Have fun on your trip!!
