A 2 Year old at HHN...

Has anyone else ever taken a young child to HHN??? Or are we just 'bad parents?'

We first went a few years ago, when our son was 2, and he absolutely LOVED HHN @ USF. This year we plan to go to HHN @ IOA, with our son, now 7 and our daughter who is 2.

Now we know our kids and they both want to go 'see the monsters' in IOA, but it seems that Universal are really trying to put younger attendees off.

We've been several times before and guest services have never really bothered to say much about the young ones, but this year they seem very 'anti' bringing younger children.

Now, as I said, our 7 year old has been going to HHN since he was 2 and our 2 year old is intrigued.

I just wondered if anyone had any comments.

Wow you have adventorous (sp?) children. I was 13 when I went last year and was scared out of my mind. My 7 year-old sister didn't come anywhere near the place. If I can find a way to get down there this year I will go again. Anyhoo if your kids are up for it go ahead! lol I'll be the teen hiding behind my dad! lol

Paramount won't even allow children to their Halloween events. I am fairly shocked to hear Universal will because of the extremes they go to in gore and creepiness.

Well I have to get them as screwed up as me somehow...

Seriously though, last year our son was really upset that we couldn't go because he wanted to see Venom. When he heard that it was at IOA again this year he couldn't wait to go.

I'll be 30 in less than a month, but you would have to drag me kicking and screaming into HHN. I know it's all fake but my sometimes overactive imagination still gets the best of me. Plus I do not have the stomach for all that gore. I'd probably toss my cookies. I can't even stand the sight of my own blood half the time. When I was a teenager I loved a good scare. My friends and I would hit every haunted house in town at Halloween. Not anymore. I'm a big old 'fraidy cat now!

I'm still scared by the creepy Maddam Tussaud's Scare maze and your kids WANT to go to a whole night full of these things? They're brave!

I think Universal only recommends no children so you shouldn't have a problem...

The only problem I would have with bringing children to HHN is the large amounts of drunks during the event. It seems they increase the amount of alcohol they sell every year. I would be more concerned with my kid being thrown up on, walked on, fallen on, or hearing slurring fowl language. I wouldn't bring a child to a nightclub and would definately hesitate before bringing one to HHN.

I just bought my tickets online for HHN 14. Right afterwards, Universal sent me an email saying that the event is rated PG-13 and parental discretion is strongly advised. They also said that there will not be any safe zones if the event becomes too intense for anyone (including children). Hope this helps.

   Well it might have, 12 months ago when I made the post... Hehe.

But seriously, the kids absolutely LOVED HHN 13!!! You haven't lived until you've seen a 2 1/2 year old hugging a 7ft tall devil demon!!!

In fact we ended up going TWICE at the request of the children!

I know Universal bill this as PG-13 and say it isn't recommended for young kids, but all the scaracters were great and our kids loved being jumped out on.

I guess, at the end of the day, you have to make a judgement call on how your children will react. Personally we have broght them up to not fear the unknown or the scary, buut to have healthy respect for it. They wanted to go, yes, even our 2 year old. They had a blast and the only thing they are sad about is that we won't be able to go again for a while due to school.

Ya know, I think alcohol consumption wasn't OTT. Over the two nights we went we never saw anyone throw up, no searing or other repugnant language and the only time we had an incident was when I mistakenly took the stroller into one of the smoke areas and the the smoke went off and I couldn't see.

That said, we went on off-peak nights so there were less people than there might have been.

The funniest thing was that we brought the stroller with us and it made a hell of a noice when we pushed it through the metal detectot at the gate...

Sometimes a 2 year old won't scare as easily as a 5-6 year old. My theory is at that age they haven't made a connection to what constitutes scary imagery, learned that certain chords on an organ are creepy, grasp the concept of suspense, etc.
