I was there on Sunday. It was horrific. My group wasn't playing "count the dead stuff" it was playing "count what's still standing and not brown".

People don't understand the cyclitic nature of climate, they just interpret/rationalize the conditions they experience in their limited time frame as how they always are and speak in terms of averages. Geologically we're not too distance from the little ice age (1300's to around 1850) which was preceded by the Medieval warm period where it was warm enough for the Norse people to setting in Greenland and raise grazing herds of livestock.
