According to Central Florida Tourism Oversight District plans, the small walled-off area is labeled as the Gashapon Kiosk. Gashapon refers to the coin-operated vending machines and the capsule toys they dispense, which are popular in Japan.
I do appreciate them trying out new things relevant to modern Japan, even if previous attempts lasted all of a few months. Helps that this helps bring in some money, maybe without Mitsukoshi getting a cut?

Oh fun. We've gotten several of those places around town. Gashapon can be fun, and certainly common in Japanese culture (especially in Tokyo).

That pretty cool! Wonder if the contents will be more authentic to Japan or just fill of Disney products .... Would be a fun and not super intrusive way to have some Duffy merch

If this is full of Japan-original Gashapon. I WILL dump money into this.

If it's full of generic small Disney trinkets... Eh....

Gimme Gashapon like these:

It's a Gashapon booth focused on non-disney IP like Sanrio, Kirby and Chainsaw Man along with other capsules like the animal ones!

Finally, GOOD merch!

no added seating? They keep making additions like this but then there is no ample seating for the amount of people anymore cramming into these areas. I won't even start on the continued mess regarding the bakery in France.

I feel like there’s almost always somewhere to sit at the Katsura patio right behind it, but then again, I don’t go during super busy times of year.

Plus there plenty of benches right under where those stairs go along the store.

This has been here for years, all they did was change the guest flow
and the Japan pavilion has plenty of other places for other things food/drink wise, Katsura Grill, that shaved ice stand that has other offerings, of course the upstairs dining and Mitsukoshi itself has a lot of things for sale.

Disney realizes alcomohol has become the main appeal of WS
I think now especially that you can order almost anything from anywhere through the internet, food and drink from different places is still a little more unique and harder to get, making it more tempting for guests to buy over traditional merchandise. Saying that, they need to find a balance as the festivals are making Epcot feel like a farmers market
