Tom Sawyer Island's Imminent Removal

So there is a closing date. The seventh of July. We are arriving from the Netherlands on July 14th and my heart is broken a little bit. I was hoping to run around one last time with our son. Just like I used to do with my brother. And to hop on the Liberty Belle and enjoy one last voyage.
Somehow the closing of this whole area bothers me so much. I think because for me it has the original Disney feeling. The general adventure and fantasy found in a place that is not pre-themed for you.
Do other people feel like this as well?

Definitely will miss it (though also excited for new things/what is to come) - glad we made sure to spend some time there our last trip (spent about an hour on there, etc). Do take some solace that the original still exists out in California, but 100% can understand being sad expecially about just missing getitng to do it one last time

I cannot agree more. The atmosphere was so beautiful, and it played a perfect balance to Space Mountain and crowds everywhere. It kept the park in Theme Park… and Tom Sawyer’s world was so thoroughly Americana. The vegetation, the slow pace, the big wheel on the river boat. Something that is truly remarkable.

We fortunately got to go on the Liberty Belle and walk TSI on our last trip knowing it would be our last time. We are also heartbroken that Dis is moving in this direction. We welcome new things to be brought in but it’s always at the expense of things guests have love for. I could see another route they could have taken. TSI could have easily been upgraded and made more without going extinct. The boat should have remained untouched.
Sorry OP that you are missing out on one last time enjoying both. It’s another peice of what makes MK beloved and will be sorely missed.

I think what bothers me most is the juxtaposition with what Universal is doing. They are opening a new gate, not tearing apart the interior of one their existing parks and taking away attractions, they are adding so much more.

Meanwhile, WDW, which we know has the land to expand or open a new gate is taking away experiences, and what makes the Magic Kingdom, the Magic Kingdom. Despite long lines and overcrowding they are making it worse especially if you want to come in the next few years, between this and Epcots renovations people don't get to see the whole of WDW for years. It's such an obvious indication about where their priorities are and it is not the guest experience.

Yes exactly this. The slow pace. I don’t think that everything has to go fast or be overwhelming. I actually think it is great for kids (and adults) to be able to use their own imagination more.

Yes! I would have loved it if they would have just expand! And why not??
And than maybe as something extra to TSI. Like they did in Disneyland. Or maybe make a ‘secret’ tunnel to the island so it’s easier to get more people there.

I agree completely, they could have easily made extra fun things on the Island. like in Disneyland. For me it’s such a weird idea that this whole original part of MK is disappearing.
I must ad that we kind of said goodbye last summer. We ran around extra long.
But we didn’t have time to go on Belle than. So we had a whole ‘goodbye plan’ for this summer. Oh well. Thank you for your kind words. Happy I posted this here! Most people here (in the Netherlands) wouldn’t understand why I get all choked up about “an island in a theme park” 😌

Wait.... Whenever it's brought up that WDW needs another park we are shot down by the talking points that Dis can't possibly add on another park because....
1. They won't/ don't have the staffing to operate it. They cant pay anyone to work.
2. The cost of employing more CM's will burden Disneys bottom line.
2. There isn't enough people who will go to another park and spend their money to make it profitable.
3. It will take guests away from the other 4 parks so the 4 will no longer be profitable.
4. The expense of construction is so exorbitant that it isn't feasible to put out that kind of money into construction other than just adding a few attractions in existing parks. We have to remove attractions to fit them in.
BUT Uni has spent, built and employed staff and can add another entire park. With less guests staying/ visiting and enjoying their parks.

Hmm, the thread seems to have been moved to General Discussion, but it still appears in the Rumors forum.

EDIT: I see. There is a little export icon indicating it has been moved. The thread remains there but does not rise to the top when new post are added. Makes sense. Now, if the OP called it "Tom Sawyer Island's Imminent Removal," maybe it'd still be in the News forum!
