News Disney and Miral Announce New Seventh Theme Park Planned for Abu Dhabi

Any suggestions on which Disney IPs might work well in indoor environments? I remember there were rumors years ago that the Frozen area at Tokyo DisneySea (before the project evolved into Fantasy Springs) was going to include an indoor section where it would simulate snowfall.
I can think of some 'enclosed' environments like the Death Star from Star Wars, or the bottom of the sea (Little Mermaid, Nemo), similar to Mermaid Lagoon at TDS

I also find it curious that all of their attractions feature the DC Comics heroes in their New 52 versions — a much-criticized take that stopped being used around, what, 10 years ago? It would make more sense to use the more iconic standard versions, in my opinion. Warner Bros Movie World in Madrid is also quite disappointing in many ways. I wonder if Warner Bros doesn't enforce strict control over the use of its IPs the way Disney or Universal do. Disney really has an easy path to stand out with a massive difference in quality in the area.

It's almost as if it was built 10 years ago. Miral's best traits are the world building of the individual lands, particularity the simulated sky. That plus Disney's animatronic expertise makes me more hopeful for the Disney dark rides at this park

Frozen, Star Wars and little mermaid are great indoor ideas. Off the top of my head a few more Disney owned IPs that might work well indoors could be

Doesn’t matter the scale or size

One thing that’s becoming more evident about that generation is they really don’t cope with the calendar flipping very well

Their parents got to 60-65 and were like “ehhh…we’re good…all gravy now”. (I think a lot of that has to do with evading machine gun fire for a few years)…
But the boom wants 10 more years every 5.
I think in the end…nature will win. Like Jurassic park.

Just on the layover point, if you're going between Australia and Europe you more or less don't have a choice but to stop somewhere. Other than a Perth-London flight, the closest to a non-stop flight from the east coast (where most people live) is Sydney-Istanbul.

Those flights are brutal (usually around 24 hours with the stopover), so it has become increasingly common to break it up with a few nights somewhere. I know I now do this on the way back to Europe. So, this is certainly a market they would be wise to consider for the resort, particularly as Etihad is well-established flying between Australia and Europe with a stop in Abu Dhabi. It would be win-win for Etihad and Miral to work out deals that both make Etihad a more attractive choice for those flights and Yas Island an attractive break for a few nights on the way there or back.

Virtually every Aussie I know goes home from the UK via the gulf now rather than Hong Kong or Singapore so there is a lot of competition between the various gulf carriers (Etihad, Qatar, Emirates, Saudia etc). A couple of days break at Disneyland will be a good incentive to travel via AD rather than the other hubs

100%. When I was younger, Singapore was the most common stop and, if not, it would be Hong Kong or somewhere else in South-East Asia (I remember a long, hot layover in Bangkok years ago). Now, the Gulf carriers dominate the market and there is a lot of competition. One of the main stadiums in Melbourne was Etihad Stadium for a long time, though, interestingly enough, Disney has been paying for it to be branded Marvel Stadium for the past decade or so.

Qatar Airlines in particular has been very aggressive in expanding into Australia and has just signed an agreement with Virgin Australia. This is where I could see stopovers including Disneyland Abu Dhabi being part of Etihad's pitch to customers as I get the impression they have been falling behind Qatar and Emirates.
