Hello there :)
After asking for hotel value, I'm thinking of upgraded my reservation by POFQ or POR. I mean I went a long time ago in FQ and love it but POR has this charm of south too but it is a huge resort (ok I'm french and will be there for 9 days so I'm trying to stay on my budget too lol) and POFQ has been refurbished ... So May I ask you to help me again to decide ? :)

I tend to agree. If you review the French Quarter thread, it has some comparisons. I highly prefer the mansions side since we find the grounds to be more to our liking. Also, I think that that POR rooms are a little quieter although that might be pure luck of the draw. The food court at POR has better options and we also prefer its gift shop. We also will walk from POR to POFQ since it is a short walk and it has a nice path that runs along the "Sassagoula River". So, we can get the best of both worlds.

It sorta depends on your personal preferences. I should start by saying I have not been to either in several years. Of the two, I most recently stayed at POFQ.

A plus of POFQ, in my opinion, is the more compact size. I prefer the compact size because I don't like to lose a lot of time walking around the hotel, or long rides on the bus while it loops around to all the stops. But that's my take. Other people enjoy walking the ground of POR.

Another difference is that POR has a larger food court. That said, though it has been a while, I didn't find the food court offerings to be all that exciting at either of them. No matter which side you choose, you can easily eat at either food court. I think, if I recall correctly, if your room is in one of the centrally located rooms, then walking to either food court is even easier. I think those are the preferred location rooms?

I liked the POFQ pool better, but again, I am pretty sure they still allow pool hopping between the two resorts. Most WDW do not allow pool hopping, but POR/POFQ (and the 3 All Stars) were the exception. If that option appeals to you though, it might be helpful to make sure it is still allowed.

They are both very nice. (though my most recent moderate stays have been at the Coronado tower)

A preferred room at Riverside is almost the best of both worlds if the price isn’t too much more (I say almost because the bus situation at French Quarter is better in terms of walking distance and only having one stop.) It puts you right by the pool / dining / lobby hub which is a really charming area.

I think the charm of Riverside is the feeling of walking in nature and the ambiance of the grounds. For French Quarter it’s the intimate feel, jazz, and beignets.

Riverside is my favorite by far - for me it’s up there with Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge as my top 3 favorite resorts.

French Quarter is nice too - but the lobby and food court building is much smaller and more basic design wise. The FQ is just not as charming for me - but still nice.

Both are great, get the one that's priced better. If same price? I lean towards Riverside, because I like the quiet pools as an option when it's a little too crowded at the main pool(Had great times in them with my son when he was an infant), and there is a sit down restaurant as an option. Plus the piano player at nights is great.

honestly thinking to book at POR BUT we're going in august and POR will be refurbishment... I'm a bit afraid to be surround by working machines everywhere lol (well for myself it wont be so much a problem but my boyfriend would be able to complaint lol he is adorable but it is not a disney fanatic (unfortunately )) So my question is : dont you think they work by building or they work inside your building when you have a room in another level ? (sorry again, if my english is bad please :)

You really can’t go wrong with either choice. We’ve stayed at both many times, however we prefer POFQ. We enjoy that it’s a smaller resort. The food choices in both food courts are basically the same. The walk along the waterway between the resorts is great, especially at night. We like the 1 bus stop at FQ to access the parks.

We ( DW and I) prefer POFQ while DS likes POR better. We enjoy the quieter atmosphere and smaller area to walk around. The bus service is separated into 2 spots for the park routes and are just a short walk from the lobby area. It is much more convenient than multiple stops, especially during busier times of the year. Using POR bus service can be more lengthy and timely. POFQ has a smaller option food court and no restaurant but POR is just a short walk away so we can take advantage of a more choice food court and a different night entertainment. Ive found no difference in waiting for Boat service to DS.
Both resorts are great value for your money and deliver about the same comfort. And you have the ability to access both. Your decision will probably be made by what comfort level you have by either smaller, quaint surroundings or larger spread out buildings.
For us the quieter smaller option suits us just fine.

we prefer the FQ for its compact size, theming, & found it to be very quiet. riverside is nice, but too spread out for our taste. it’s nice having a smaller resort after being in the parks all day. whichever resort you choose, i hope you both have a great time.

I prefer POFQ because of the beignets for breakfast and the ease of the bus service. I don’t care as much for the more spread out resorts.

When they refurb they close entire buildings and work on that area til done. We’ve been there at refurb time and have never had it be disruptive to our stay. You may see signage, machines and workers but they are out of your way and aren’t messing with the atmosphere.

Both resorts are very nice, and it ultimately depends on your personal preferences. I personally prefer Riverside, specifically the mansion rooms. I do not mind the larger resort size, and I actually prefer it in some ways. It feels more "grand" than "quaint", but again, that's personal preference.

I prefer Riverside's food court, but as others have pointed out, you can walk over and eat at French Quarter pretty easily. Riverside has several smaller, quiet pools, in addition to the main pool. French Quarter only has the main pool. But again, since they are sister resorts, you are allowed to use the pools at both resorts.

Aside from size, the one knock Riverside has compared to French Quarter is the transportation to the parks. People tend to say the buses take a long time at Riverside because there are so many bus stops, whereas French Quarter has one. My family drives, so we rarely take the bus, but that's what I often hear. However, both resorts have a boat to Disney Springs, which is very nice.

Riverside also has one of the better gift shops of any resort, in my opinion.

With all that said, you can't go wrong with either. French Quarter is a great resort, and I would definitely stay there again.

Portorleans.org is an unofficial guide to both resorts, and it has tons of information to look through. You can also join their Facebook group, which has a lot of great information, too.

First thing @AstridJMF , your English is just fine! You really can’t go wrong with either resort. I haven’t seen it mentioned here yet, but I read you’re spending 9 days. You could consider doing a split stay. 5 days at 1 resort, then 4 at the other. We’ve done a split stay many times. Whichever way you go, you’ll have a blast!

Thank you very much to all of you who make the time to help us to find the perfect hotel for us :) Like you all said, I can enjoy both of the resorts because it's we are not very far from both resorts and I can go wrong with one and another :)

I have stayed at both. The theming is great at Riverside and loved staying there. However, French Quarter is smaller and does have that New Orleans feel to it. It just depends on what you want. Great theme or smaller and easier to get around.
