Reservation Dilemma

For those who have dined at various Disney Springs restaurants, I have a reservation question. Why is it at some restaurants (that I won't name) you can't get a reservation for 2 people, yet if you say 3 people there are plenty of times? Has anyone booked a 3 person reservation when there are only 2 of you? Just wondering if they make a big deal out of it. Thanks for any help.

Book the 3 and show up with 2. No problem. Are you using OpenTable or MDE? OpenTable has a lot more reservations available at most (not all) of the DS restaurants.

Most restaurants in Disney Springs have more tables for groups of three or more than tables just for two. Once the smaller tables for two are booked, online reservation systems will show nothing available for parties of two. Restaurants don't want to tie up larger tables for just two guests. More people dining equals more money. If a table that seats four is tied up with only two guests, that will show less tables available for larger parties. But as others have said, you shouldn't have a problem booking for three and have only two show up.

Another reservation dilemma - restaurants on the app show “join walk up list” - but you can’t join it unless you are very close.

But then when you get close it just says “we can’t accommodate more guests”

I wish the app would say if the walk up list is open before having to walk over.

Unfortunately through MDE because the restaurant isn't on Open Table. I think we're just going to book the 3. I don't think we're the only one.
Same issue happens with in-park dining reservations as well. When I encounter that, I make the ADR for 3 and then go back and modify the reservation down to 2.

That's a big no-no in the dining industry. 2 people to a 2 top, 3 or 4 to a 4 top. In other words, they are losing money by giving up seats. I certainly hope you tipped well!

yeah, much smarter to have empty tables!
Wait staff at every restaurants desire larger parties because although it means more work for them it usually generated more tips. In some cases you can watch the differences in how they also treat/ interact with tables with guests with more diners vs tables of 2.

I haven’t found that to be true at all. Maybe it depends on the restaurant.

This has been going for years at all Disney restaurants. They can make more money 2 tables of 4 compared to 2 tables of 2. Make it foe 3 and show up with 2 never had a problem

Where on earth couldn’t you get in? Can’t be more than like 5 places…
