DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

I just realized. MuppetVision closing basically torpedoes any chance of them doing a Muppets dark ride like we've been clamoring for. Not that the chances of it were very high already.
I distinctly recall a poster on here - not gonna give away any names - telling me that the Muppets weren't well-suited for a dark ride because they're "by nature high octane and rambunctious" and "the energy just isn't there."

like...what? there are so many other ways to convey that energy that wouldn't alienate a significant portion of the audience they're pacifying. detail it to the hilt - fill it with gags, kinetics, and animatronics aplenty, go gangbusters on the special effects, maybe make the ride vehicles active in some way...that pretty much would be the best option for them that isn't a show (relocated or otherwise).

you know that argument is ridiculous when WDI themselves had a Muppets dark ride in the pipeline during the early days of the Studios

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the "modern" Mickey shorts ALSO "high octane and rambunctious"? THAT got a dark ride.

One of the biggest problems is that the zany fast-paced animation clashes with the slow-moving trackless ride vehicles. So, no, the Muppets aren't well-suited for a trackless dark ride, but I think they'd lend themselves fine to a normal busbar (not that Disney actually builds normal busbars anymore, of course). And besides, the Muppets aren't always "high octane and rambunctious". It's not like every second of every production is just them running around screaming like they just had fifty cups of coffee each.

My suggestion: use Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek over in Tokyo Disneyland as a basis. The attraction's premise could be that the Muppets are performing at the Hollywood Bowl or something (which would fit the theme of HOLLYWOOD Studios as an added bonus!) but the Muppets are scattered around California doing their own thing and it's ten minutes until showtime. Thus, Kermit and Fozzie enlist our help to find the others, and we head out into the night, zipping around California and finding animatronic Muppets all over the place. Once we've found them all, we head back to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Muppets perform, Statler and Waldorf heckle us as we pull into the unload area, exits to your left, buy a T-Shirt on your way out, blah blah blah...

I think the Muppets are a dated form of slapstick humor that just does not resonate with younger people. The last handful of shows have been cancelled after one season due to low viewership, Including the most recent Electric Mayhem one. Aerosmith couldn’t stick around forever, but it had a certain cool edge to it that worked across generations, which Muppets lacks.

The Muppets are owned by Parks and Resorts for some reason, literally the only studio IP they own, so that’s probably why they continue trying to twist this into something that works, even though it’s probably past its expiration date. They can claim this is a big success for the Muppets brand even though it’s nearly impossible to make Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster boring.

I’m glad the ride is staying conceptually similar though!

Probably not a good idea for Disney. While that song is now generally interpreted in a sanitized way, the meaning Freddie Mercury originally intend was not family-friendly, let's say, and we would be in an analogous situation to the hand sign of Steven Tyler's that had to be edited out.

I would suggest "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar but that's not really their style.
It’s 2025. The actual meaning goes over any kids’ head.

The song is so tame by modern standards lol.

An actual good use of Tiana’s plot.

You know it's bad when they even ask Brian Henson about The RnR coaster and they have no control or at least some kind of help..
What do you know about the Electric Mayhem rollercoaster that’s being developed for the theme park?
You’d have to ask them. I don’t know what they’re telling people.
It's from this article...

Why would he have some control? But even if he is involved, this is the answer he’d have to give.

Prediction: Rock n Rollercoaster goes down before the end of 2025. I can see them taking it down November/December, Muppets only takes a few months to put in, and then Electric Mayhem opens as a "new" attraction for summer 2026.

Yeah, it will be a relatively quick turnaround. They recently did an extensive track refurb within the last few years, so it's really swapping out set pieces. Work on these sets/preshow elements could have even already started. They'll want this down for as short as possible.

New merch from the site we don't say. They're claiming it's farewell merch, but they'd probably have something Muppets on it

I don't think that's what was actually said depending on how you take that comment. I think what he meant, based on my reading, is that he doesn't know what he can say because he doesn't know what's been posted about yet. He's basically giving a non answer to not reveal anything, at least that's how I read it.

This was one ride I didn't get on during my trip, unfortunately. It just didn't work out schedule-wise, and I had several people too young to ride in my group. But at least the coaster isn't going anywhere. Besides, I hear they don't even play "Dude Looks Like a Lady Anymore," which was my favorite song to get (is that true?).

I think they should be able to turn it around for the summer even if it doesn't close until mid January .... Should be relatively easy to update the sets and install a new preshow that they hopefully are already well into development of

At least by say July 4th if not Memorial Day
