Disney Cruise Line Fleet Expansion

It really depends which ship you started with. Those who start with the Wish generally continue to prefer it over the other ships.
While I can agree that it performs well for people who have not been on Disney Cruise line before, I have never heard Disney Cruise line sources tell me anything that aligns with the other ships under performing if they go on the Wish first.

It’s true

That’s not to say that some don’t prefer the older ships. However, the classic ships score lower overall from people whose first experience was on the Wish.

Magic has the aqua dunk which is far more thrilling than the aqua duck. Easily the most thrilling water slide in the entire fleet. A true thrill slide. They both have a much longer yellow Mickey water slide That the entire family may enjoy versus the kids only versions on the dream in fantasy.

The magic and wonder might be older but they're not backtracks. If you haven't been on them they'll be new to you and they'll be fantastic. You won't regret it.

When it comes to Disney Cruise line I think you'll find a large population of Disney Cruise line repeat gst who will confirm for you that both bigger and newer is not better. In fact as compared to the Dream I believe if your next cruise is on the magic or wonder you'll be quite pleased whereas if it's on the Wish I think you'll be disappointed.

Edit : The safest bet for you probably is the Disney Fantasy since you liked the dream so much. Fantasy is an upgraded version of the dream. Same basic ship but with a better adult area.

I’m coming around to the idea of my next cruise being on the Wonder. Might pull the trigger on a cruise to Mexico this Spring. With the kids in tow, I’m in the mood for convenience and you can beat a 2.5 hour drive to San Diego, parking your car, walking onto the cruise ship and pretty much being done. Also considering the Wonder might only have 5-10 years left it would be nice to look back and say I sailed on every Disney ship class. I have plenty of time to get on one of the newer ships. We’re also considering Aulani. WDW is where we really want to go but have decided we’re going to wait til my youngest hits 40 inches which most likely won’t be until early 2026. Doesn’t hurt that the Wonder seems to be many people’s favorite ship. Like I said before the only let down would be not having the Aqua duck or Mouse to ride with my son who loved it or the cooler kids club.

Do it! Highly recommend the Wonder.

The classic ships really are quite wonderful. I think you've landed on a lot of wonderful reasons to go on the Wonder. The Wish class, being the newest, will be around far longer for you to enjoy. Enjoy the classics while you still can. And yes what a great thing to say that you have been on all of them.

The Magic was very nice. I am extremely happy we sailed on her. It also completes at least one sailing on every ship, which will end once the Treasure and Destiny debut. We have less than zero desire to sail on any more Triton-class ships based on the design of the Wish.

I am booked on the treasure so I will retain my "been on all the ships" title until the destiny. Honestly I don't know about the destiny. I booked the treasure because I like the bars. Although Aristocats seems a bit themed only by signage, the others look pretty good. The jungle Cruise, the 20K, and the haunted mansion. But the Distiny is not calling my name and agree, The general bones of the design of the wish class is not great.

The bars don’t interest us at all, since we don’t spend any time in them, but the adult area does. If the D23-announced ships don’t move back to a more Magic/Dream style of adult area, we will have no interest in those, either.

Oh actually I forgot about that. Doesn't the treasure have a more dedicated adult area with sarabi? I think I forgot that was one of the reasons why I was okay with the treasure 🙂

Not really. Sarabi is just the Treasures version of Luna.
Snip......

A recreation of the space called Luna on Disney Wish, Sarabi aboard Disney Treasure is named for the lioness matriarch from Disney’s 'The Lion King.' Decked out in design touches reflecting the African savanna, this multipurpose lounge will be a central hub for daytime family activities such as games and competitions.

CRUISE Disney Treasure Sarabi

Sarabi is inspired by 'The Lion King'

At night it transforms for adult entertainment.

End snip.....

Now adding

So I thought that meant it was in the same location but being treated different than Luna.... However it turns out you're absolutely right. For the Disney wish it also describes Luna as an adult's only lounge during the evening.

Oh well....

I’ve been aggressively pounding the DCL needs to upscale drum for a number of years now and I’m glad they’ve conceded. This is going to drive a lot of the Experiences growth this decade.

DCL is now scaling up to be an actual major and not a niche player. I won’t delude myself that it will make them cheaper, but perhaps not so aggressive with pricing now that they actually will own a proper fleet.

I think the Magic and Wonder should stick around until later 2030’s, with one more good refurb left to go to give them some longevity. But they’ll get replaced by the next mid-late 2030’s wave of 3-4 ships. Inevitably.
Apparently, it’s a new class of ship. 160,000 GT vs the Wish class 140,000 GT.

Excellent. This puts them in the wheelhouse of Royals Quantum Class and NCL’s Breakaway Class. Two classes I think highly of.

Notably, both NCL’s Prima Class and DCL’s Wish class seem to have the same vein of criticisms - that they tried to tack on too many venues to a ship that wasn’t quite big enough to support them all. Leading to micro venues.

That said, Celebrities Edge Class runs 130-140k tonnage and is quite well regarded. So it was more of a cramming in too much problem than something inherently off with the tonnage.

@monothingie - this order book also affirms a discussion we were having several months back. The wish class wasn’t as expensive as I think you thought it was. DCL treasure/destiny is 900. Though Adventure is 1.8.

I don't know about the criticisms leveled at NCL's ships, but a lot of the criticisms aimed at the Wish are mainly design-related - Poor choices by an architect who had never sailed on a cruise ship that were approved by the Master Ship Builder himself. Can't argue there weren't too many things crammed in, because there absolutely were. But the Wish, to me, feels like revolution instead of evolution. And it failed.
