MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

This got accidentally pulled into a moderation sweep so I’ll repeat myself:

“Everything you love about Disney has been informed by research trips. This is deeply ingrained in the creative culture of the company.”

I understand people are deeply frustrated for whatever variety of reasons. But this reminds me of criticizing the company for revealing project “early” or being too consumer facing. Or worse yet advocating for animation studios to be closed. These are all deeply philosophically Walt’s ethos.

Most of the time we, the public, cannot directly correlate anything the imagineers visited with what actually is eventually presented. Don't even broach what is announced and never sees a spade of dirt turned as its the current company sophistry, the sixth key of operations.

As for rides, they did announce last year that there would be two MAJOR attractions (I assume E ticket). One will be the roller coaster that I’ll predict is a combination of Hagrid’s storytelling with Velocicoaster intensity. I really think there are people at Disney who want to blow the thrill seeker out of the water with this coaster by doing something they really have never done before. “But it’s a family park!” Yeah, and there’s more than two days worth of attractions the whole family can enjoy. Having one intense one for older groups won’t be a bad idea and it’ll cut down lines at Tron, Space, and Big Thunder.

The second I assume will be a dark ride. We’ll see if it meets RotR levels or not.

Besides that, I think one or two small rides might be in store as well. Maybe a twisted Villain carousel?

I like the thorny, sharp, twisted look for a Villain's Land as it is distinctly different from the rest of the park's vibe. My hope is that they will not cheap out and give us only 2 rides along with the usual shops selling the same stuff and a couple of quick service spots.

I was watching a YT video on TS Island with it's "caves" and multiple paths and it made me think of Diagon Alley at USF- both are (were) great places to walk, explore, and take in the ambiance of the area. I'm also hoping they can somehow expand on the creepiness of HM perhaps as an transitional entryway to Villain Land. But, with a Cars ride plunked down right in the middle of Frontier Land/Early American on 3 sides, that area will be tricky.

Since so many are falling all over themselves at a completely devoid-of-information statement, this seems an appropriate time to remind:

It’s not always about easily recognized 1:1 real world correlation if they are not aiming to recreate a very specific location. It’s about creative inspiration.

Your frustrations are valid. But I think it’s being misdirected at attacking the creative process, when the sinister source of all the frustration is corporate.

Ps: I think it is lame they heavily signposted villains land and did not bring new concept art.

Architecture, vegetation, wildlife, inhabitants even a similarity would be appreciated. The best that's supplied would be generic greenish plants, straight lines for architecture, and pidgin variations of American English. They still are part of the corporate structure.

I’m not even sure what specifically we are referring to. Nor do I remotely think it is consistently done well. I’m just making the point it is always done (research trips) and I strongly doubt the output nor project costs would improve if this process were eliminated. As was being proposed by forum members.

"Walt's brother Roy suggested a trip to Europe with their wives. The trip would take the Disneys from England to France, Germany, and Italy, and then back home. While the couples intended to relax and enjoy the comforts of Old World Europe, Walt also had business in mind: his grand tour was not just about taking in the sights but about building the Disney brand in Europe and bringing back to America ideas and source material for new films, new cartoons, and far down the road, a new theme park."

Got it. So you’re saying Walt did the architecture work.

You think there will be FOUR rides?! 😂

Characters roaming around and interacting with each other?? Remember all the promises we had with Batuu and characters and movement and interactions? Yeah that’s one of the deadest areas in any park. I can’t believe that statement from Andreas.
To be clear…no one knew how badly they understood Star Wars at that time. Now we know…

Complete miss.

They should fair better with a villain thing

The contempt towards artists and the creative process being shown in this thread is baffling

It’s truly baffling sometimes.

A lot of these creatives have been shown to be extremely passionate about their field of work.

I love hearing an artist describe the choices they made to make something come to fruition.
WDI are not “artists”

That’s the joe thing that lead downhill to less product and reliability for higher and higher costs.

They still need a firm reset. It’s a mixture of multiple disciplines…the “art” can’t outweigh the pragmatism.
