If you consider the Mandalorians the "Indians" in the story, yeah, since they're the ones the government is pushing out of their home.

I know they exist, but what percentage of Westerns are told from the Indians' point of view?
This is… not a good reading of Mandalorian.

REVISIONIST WESTERN. Although Mando isn’t even revisionist, it’s quite conventional.

Has nobody ever taken a film history course? Or, heck, a REGULAR history course?

I promise you this is not the case. Americans at large in this day and age do not hold any importance in their hearts for the frontier myth. If they think about it at all, they are hostile toward it. The way we as a collective read our past has changed and grown a great deal over the years, and many no longer see that time as something jovial or exciting or celebratory. Important developmentally? Sure. An ideal or something stemming with pride and importance to identity? No. And it has been no for years now.
Are you are speaking for the entire American population or just the circle of folks you interact with?

I don't know what the answer is but I would never speak for Americans at large about anything as I have no idea what folks are thinking.

The only thing I can guess at is, things Disney does is mostly influenced by MONEY.

Almost all of your posts are full of spin and nonsense— just to the negative and pessimistic side 🤣
This project is useful because it demonstrates once and for all that some posters will defend any removal. Nothing is sacred. Disney pushed it to the greatest possible extremity short of dynamiting the castle and some responded by contorting themselves to avoid disloyalty to the brand.

IT IS BEING REPLACED BY CONCRETE!

Isn’t thinking fan outcry made them widen the river as silly as the idea that fan outcry might make them cancel the project?
And I’ll call it out when the reality becomes clear if the water we get is nothing like this art. Don’t forget, you’re looking at a guy with a Mario avatar that continues to have no problem calling out shortcomings in SNW (mostly Donkey Kong). It has also been many years since I had an annual pass to Disney.

Far be it from you to think you know what everyone is thinking.

Not a good sign. As everyone knows, announcements made late on a Friday is intended to bury the news.

If they do this, they know it’s not what the guests want, and we know they are doing it because they care more about saving costs than their paying guests.

OK Finance people.

Everyone knows the fights Walt and Roy had. Walt wanted to do stuff and Roy was constantly pushing back about the finances. Lucky for us, Walt won most of those fights.

Today there are no fights. The "Finance people" run the theme parks.

Could you image Roy telling Walt they could save money if they filled in rivers of America! LOL, LOL, LOL.

We hope not anyway ;). Besides EVERYONE wants to be the last to ride in any event!

1. Everyone loves Groot
2. Tokyo Disney does whatever they want to do, GOOD FOR THEM! - see Splash.

Everyone knows Bob was running the company when Chapek was in there. Chapek tried to think for himself and lead the company and that’s when Chapek was pulled out on a Sunday night.

Bob was, is, and WILL BE running the company well into the future.

The high speed ending of Test Track is the exciting part everyone loves. As long as they keep that folks will still love it.

I have a feeling the new Cars attraction in MK will have an exciting high speed straightaway at the end of the attraction to provide an exciting ending.

One thing we have seen first hand (EPCOT) Disney likes to drag projects over many, many quarters, so for real or fake reasons, I fully expect all these projects will take longer than expected and the beautiful part for Disney they have built in excuses for the delays that everyone will believe.

The part I'm most concerned about is they don't reference the Haunted Mansion in this concept art. The Haunted Mansion is going to be sitting right next to this. They have to know how ridiculous it’ll look next to the entrance to a national park.
This! What is management in Florida thinking!? There’s space beyond Rivers of America…that would have been better to expand and bring more capacity.

It doesn't really matter, the Cowboys and Indians genre of western entertainment is not popular anymore because we, as a society, don't find it acceptable to glorify the exploitation and killing of the indigenous people.

You two have awfully narrow views of what constitutes the western genre.

I'm curious why people keep saying, "attractions". There is only one announced, thus far, with a phase 2 "family friendly attraction" "to be announced later". ✂️

The art is different because it emphasizes other things and isn't shown with more realistic elevations and show buildings that obscure the waterways. People did in fact suggest that the waterways would work like that based on the original artwork.
The old concept art shows an expanse of solid land where there is now a flowing body of water leading uninterrupted to the waterfall. It’s not just a question of emphasis, but a (seeming) alteration (“seeming” because I’m hesitant to take such art at face value, not because it doesn’t show something materially different from the first design).

Because it's easiest to search my own posts, here's one where I said exactly that from August 13th.
I’m not denying, by the way, that you and others may have guessed this would be the arrangement anyway, which is certainly impressive and prescient of you. But I’m only going on what the two designs show.

I just want you to know that I understand what you are going for with this line of discussion. Star Wars has always leaned into space western, especially in the Outer Rim stories. Sometimes it's more blatant than others... Cad Bane / Freetown / The Sherriff Cobb Vanth... stunt casting Timothy Olyphant. But maybe people missed Season 2 and Book of Boba Fett?

Yup. Mando isn’t presented as a “native,” he’s the classic “lone wanderer with a code” - he’s pretty literally The Man With No Name.

Not that western influences are always that obvious… but they are in Mando.
