Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I acknowledge my complete ignorance here: Could somebody explain the function of the "two cranes kissing" like that? Doesn't seem like they would be able to accomplish their purpose of moving things when they are locked together in an X.

Not really - very easy to edit that out.

But that's the (unofficial) reason given for not putting the lights back on the castle, too many people complained that the crane was in their "magical castle pictures".

Ok, but how does it work when it's in the shape of an X. Don't cranes usually move [insert thing here] from point A to point B? How does the crane move when it's anchored to the ground in two places?
