If I have to explain it, you aren't paying attention.

We own 2 DVC contracts. A lounge in a park is the last thing I'd give two ****s about when looking to drop $30,000. But intelligence seems to be dwindling as the years go by and stupidity (and celebrating stupidity) on the rise.
Well yeah, I agree with that last part. I'd rather not paint everyone with the same brush so broadly though. The fact remains DVC is making money and they will continue to make sure it continues to do that.

An old, long since passed, morning radio host here used to say “I can explain it to ya’, but I can’t understand it for ya’.”

Most normal people think we are dumb for spending so much time and money at Disney destinations.
Oh, I don’t care what they think. Some people get their kicks out of trying to ruin other people’s fun.

I quit trying to argue with that group. If they think I’m dumb that’s fine. I’d rather be dumb and happy than their brand of smart and miserable.

Yeah, I don't really care either, just giving some perspective to another poster's complaint.

No, but perks matter. It's like we say on hotel threads all the times. Does Magic Express make or break for most? Probably not. But if you add that with a bunch of other things, then maybe it does. Will a lounge make or break the purchase? Not a chance. But if you are on the fence, it could be a push in the direction of "Disney really care for and look out for contract holders." Or, could it increase satisfaction for current DVC so they push friends a little more? I have no idea (I'm very far from that demo), but lets face facts, this is an addition that is not generating revenue any other way than bringing in more DVC sales/point sales. I have a tough time thinking Disney is doing it just out of the goodness of their hearts to make DVC feel a little more special without any thought that it's going to increase the bottom line.

Disney is counting on people not looking at what they used to offer as a perk and instead focus on the shiny they are holding out in front of them.

Wait, the DVC members will have to pay a charge to get on a waitlist line to go in? and seriously how long before there is a priority toilet access in the restrooms... You can wait to go poo, or for just $29.95/day with park admission, you can have priority toilet access... At this point we should see that enacted by the time the new Carsland Autoparts Mtn area opens.
Apparently it's just extended hours now, it was worded like it was priority access on the waitlist when it was first announced, unless there are 2 things now.
Only speculating here, but my belief is that Membership Beyond Magic program will give priority access during regular hours *and* exclusivity during extended hours. Why? To give a benefit for upcharge program during all hours. While we don't know if it will be the same way at MK and EPCOT lounges, it seems like they'd be treated the same to push the upcharge program.

Your entire second paragraph is based upon data you invented in your head.

Suffice to say, they are building these lounges because they are marketable when making new sales.
Domestic Parks and Experiences

The increase in operating income at our domestic parks and experiences reflected:

  • Guest spending growth attributable to increases in per capita guest spending at our theme parks and cruise line
  • Lower sales of Disney Vacation Club units
  • Higher costs primarily due to inflation, new guest offerings, increased technology spending and higher operations support costs, partially offset by the comparison to depreciation in the prior-year quarter related to the closure of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser
I’m just going off the earnings report.

I guess that’s data I just made up in my head.

I’m sure sales will skyrocket if they build a few more lounges 🤪🤪🤪🤪

Can we really argue perks like this don't matter and then complain when other perks of the same or lesser significance are taken away from the resorts?

This doesn't do anything for me and I guess I should be negative on the project as it takes away something that I technically could have enjoyed for something I can't. The logic behind it as a marketing tool for DVC makes sense, though, and not miles away from the allure of lounge access as a selling point of frequent flier programs. Seeing people mock others for spending their money on DVC or at WDW in general then casually mentioning their own DVC ownership and frequent trips also kind of makes my head hurt.

Everybody is entitled to their fun…we can all agree with that

The problem is promoting narratives that just aren’t true to “internally justify” that fun/cost that grates

Wdw has had less attendance since 2019. Fact

They hit a significant attendance wall in early 2023. Fact

They have increased prices far above cost inflation and with increasing Frequency on all products to compensate. Fact

Now we can all accept those things…and it doesn’t make anyone “mean” or disloyal…

As far as why we go, what we spend, etc…that’s a private matter…given the realities. No one needs affirmation on chats to sleep at night.

Dvc is neither the program nor the value that It was.

Does that give the context?

In the end…people will do what they will. That’s fine.

I will not congratulate people for paying $200 a point ($30,000 upfront) for the trailers or riviera. It doesn’t pass the common sense standard. To each their own.

"Charging cords available upon request on a first-come, first-served basis." This is new DVC, to my knowledge. Presumably spots to plug cords into? Curious how long that lasts before stolen cords are a cost center and this goes away.

I’m sure the borrowed charging cord will be linked to your account, and if it doesn’t return, I’m sure your account will be “charged” for it…!!!!! :D:hilarious:

I’ll be here all week folks…!!!
Make sure to tip your waiters and waitresses, and don’t forget to try the veal…!!!!! 😁

Sorry, couldn’t resist…this is what happens when I go to bed too early and wake up too early…!!!!! 🤪:hilarious:;)

I saw someone mention “New Frontierland” a few posts above. Each attraction except for BTM will be worse off than it was 4 years ago. Splash Mountain? Inferior replacement. Country Bears? Inferior replacement. TSI? Destroyed. Shooting Arcade? Replaced by a DVC lounge. The only improvement has been the menu at Pecos Bill’s. To top it all off, the beautiful view of the river will be destroyed.

You have to remember that these are all opinions.
There are people who like Tiana’s more than Splash. There are people who like CBMJ better than the original. There are people who would rather have Cars attractions than TSI or River views.

“New Frontierland” may not work for some people, but it will breathe some new life into that corner of the park for others.
