I think locals may do the "take the kids to the water parks for a day in the summer" each year kinda thing.

I could see that. As a local though, I have not interest in the waterparks as long as only one is open. That was the benefit to Disney's waterparks over Volcano Bay and Aquatica. They took away their advantage.

To be fair, I don't believe that you can buy an AP to just Volcano Bay - not sure why you'd want to avoid the main UO theme parks that much, but it's still worth the note. I do think Aquatica has an AP though, without SeaWorld attached. And they've added some stuff in the last decade too.
