Why stack marathon weekend on top of new years? It’ll be extremely crowded, and potentially difficult to secure a room. Interested to see how that will play out.

So they can get runners to do back to back WDW and DLR races. That weekend in January was when SW Might Side was run.

However, they're missing $$$ from runners who would do the Castaway Challenge, then want to do DLR Half.

The coast to coast didn’t require back to back weekends though. Plus with Castaway basically being brushed aside (it’s still possible to do it, just is a logistics nightmare), seems like they could have arranged it better. Stacking marathon the same week as new years makes things rough. It feels like the old Disneyland half race weekend would be more appropriate, reserving January for a potential Star Wars return.

You're absolutely right. It makes no sense. They also like to schedule running events during February break (President's Day week, when most schools in the northern U.S. have a vacation). I don't understand the logic: it's just taking a time of year that's already overcrowded (because Disney always acts SHOCKED that the crowd surge is happening again, and never increases staffing or park hours to make it more bearable), and making it exponentially worse.

Once upon a time, we foolishly attempted to visit the Magic Kingdom on a half-marathon day during February break week, turning what should have been a 20-minute trip into a 60+-minute slog, stuck standing up on a packed bus watching "runners" comprised of masses of people of unremarkable fitness, in tutus and various costumes, WALKING SLOWLY, pass us by. Once at MK, all modes of transportation except the monorail were completely unavailable until after mid-morning because of the road blockages that prevented the buses from going anywhere. We vowed, "never again," and we stuck to it! The next year we wanted to travel during February break, we went to Universal. ;)

No, it didn't. Why rD did this is puzzling.

But coast to coast would be any of the WDW halfs, not just Marathon weekend.
I know, it is just the easiest combo for those who would travel internationally for rD ;-)

Not sure if I can make this fit in any way. Combining WDW and DL isn’t ideal in that period, but just DL is almost just as bad (and no C2C).
