What most likely happened was the comet that shoots off from the theater's roof during the Someday finale to depict a shooting star (right before the laser heart appears) misfired, and fell back on the roof, causing the fire on the railing.

Update:
The comet that comes from the theater's roof was missing tonight. Probably due to some safety precautions and maybe an investigation or two. Hopefully it comes back soon.

I’m surprised it hasn’t happened a long time ago, they have been launching the timed comets from that spot since at least 2008. The air launch must have failed causing it to sit in that spot and burn.

The comet finally returned last night in the finale. However, it may just be me, but it doesn't look like it's being launched from the theater's roof anymore. Looks like it's being shot from ground-level behind the theater.

Finally got a POV from the side, and the comet actually now comes from one of the firework barges. Hope this is temporary until they can fully repair the roof of the theater.

10 months to fix that. That's impressive for modern Disney.

A swift and expedient repair! But happy it’s (finally) fixed.

Hopefully the pyro launcher on top of the Americans Garden theater will be in use again for the new nighttime show.

All the equipment is still up there, seemingly with nothing removed (yet).
