It closed around 8 years ago. I was talking about GMR and the scene from the Alien franchise.
Again, just my opinion that it should've stayed.
Sorry thought you were talking about Alien Encounter which closed 23 years ago.

Also GMR closed for other reasons, none of which had to do with Aliens, at least directly.

Disney should transform part of Hollywood Studios into an Alien vs Predator experience for the month of October to compete with Halloween Horror Nights.
A similar discussion was had over on the DLR side of the forums a few months ago, and I think the consensus was that a majority of guests that go to Disney Parks would be opposed to that type of event.

And its funny the most vocal for it during that discussion are those that don't even watch such content or even would attend such events.

Really if Disney was to do something like this I think it should be a separate location outside of a Disney Park and as a hard ticket event.

Bettery yet, just make it Hulu nights. There are plenty of scary things on that streaming service. American Horror Story maze?

It just got me thinking back about when the ride was closing, people saying how it was "dated" or "irrelevant" in it's IP selections.

Fast-forward to the present.
You have this successful Alien show getting renewed for more seasons moving ahead.
You have Wizard Of Oz getting introduced to young audiences through it's successful run at the Sphere in Las Vegas, plus Wicked popularity adding to that universe...

I dunno, it just got me thinking the plug was pulled too soon on that ride and some of the IPs within, and had Disney peered into the future seeing 2025 back then, maybe they would've kept it.

Anyhow, I'm getting off topic going into parks talk.

Well nonetheless it had IPs not owned by Disney, and I'm sure Disney wasn't too keen on promoting non-Disney IPs in their parks. So yeah hindsight and all, there is some relevance to things going on today, just not everything that Disney wants to promote.

They had enough IP at the time they could have and should have updated the ride. Not saying anything that hasn't been said a 1000 times, but MMRR is fine, however it would have been better to still have an updated GMR with MMRR built over in the animation area.

Eh, I still think after 65 years of no attraction dedicated to Mickey Mouse it was the right call, sorry GMR fans.
