8TB hard drives on their way

Just noticed that Seagate are shipping their 8TB external in a few days. $299 on Amazon in the USA. Not bad at all if you are looking for some serious storage space on a single disk.

Hmm 7.1 inches long. Probably fit's more than one drive in a internal raid 0 to get the higher capacity. I was hoping for higher capacity single drive as that would be awesome as a NAS drive.

I believe its using this, or a variant of, as single 8TB drive.

I think we are a bit off 8TB in a NAS rated drive - maybe end of year. Western Digital Reds are currently shipping in up to 6TB for NAS use.

Huh I hadn't seen that press release. 8TB in a single 3.5 inch drive is impressive. I have Seagate 6tb NAS drives at the moment.

This single derive 8TB is now in stock at amazon, going for $284 in the USA. Not bad.

Not bad at all considering two 4tb drives would set you back $300.
