Hey everyone.......i was on talkdisney.com last week and i saw a rumor that wdw was sometime soon goin to open a 5th theme park.......i have also noticed that it was in walt disney's plans to build 7 theme parks on the wdw resort.....it probably wont happen because of Eisner :hammer: . Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Currently there are no plans for a WDW 5th park. But there is room for a total of 7 parks. Disney though will be fixing up their current parks for probably another decade... or two.

to put it bluntly, you heard wrong. No coaster park. Even Cedar Point isn't that ridiculous (they have a few non-coaster rides lol)

It has nothing to do with Eisner (has he not already lead the company during the opening of two parks at WDW) It has everything to do with market saturation. With the current amount of parks in Orlando, there is no demand for another theme park. If a new park was to open in the next 3 years or so, it would not draw additional people to the area, it would just suck guests out of the existing parks.

IOA did not create much demand, it took guests from Universal studios.
DAK did not create much demand, it took guests from MGM and Epcot (but not BGT, which is kind of funny)

Until the current inventory of parks are running closer to capacity, another park in Orlando is a bad idea.

Of course, as a passholder to the 8 Orlando parks, and as a fan, I would love to see another park....it is just not going to happen any time soon.

I really hope it doesn't happen anytime soon. Like others said, it would just suck people out of their already existing parks and it wouldn't really draw people to come down to Orlando. The 4 parks is enough right now and they all need help one way or another. I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Supposedly, the funds that would have been put fourth for another park are being spent on the major additions to EPCOT, along with perhaps the other additions, though I don't know if that's really the case. Personally, I'd rather have this than another park, because a new park would not be likely to have many attractions, AND much of the money spent would be on other design and building aspects besides attractions.

Also, Walt definately did not have plans for 7 parks, though I've heard that rumor before as well. In fact, he onlt planned for one park. The rest was a new concept, dominated by a prototype city, with the name of EPCOT- Experimental Prototype Community of Tommarrow. Things were added to change and re-change the plans, which is why WDW seems a little disorganized. This is a great site to find out about Walt's plans for EPCOT and WDW. Watch that amazing video... Walt's last production!!

The more I read and learn about RCID, the more I think Walt's E.P.C.O.T. was a red herring.

Not really. Epcot is a very small city. 20,000 people? The city I go to school in is over 20,000 and it is not even considered a city. It is considered a small hick town. The Basketball stadium by my house also holds 20,000 people. Epcot would have probably been no larger than the current epcot. (residential and commercial. Industrial and convention would take up another epcot sized area).

But the whole Disney resort part was planned to be only around Bay Lake and 7 seas lagoon, but that was the late 60's. It seemed to change by far in the 70's even when Roy was still alive.

I had heard a similair rumor to this. However, what i had heard was, by basing a park on villians would allow for more opportunities to create extreme rides not just roller coasters. Almost something that would compete directly with Universal.

I don't even think Villians deserve a ride. Fantasmic is enough.

Definitely!

Not only that though, but I think the current parks need some work...a 5th gate can wait...Hopefully when the funds are available, in the future for a 5th gate, they will be available to construct/open a 'full' day park...not a park that will open in phases like AK...

Opening in phases, while maybe unpopular with people like us, is a good way to do business, and IMO will continue to happen at WDW. With the pattern of guests that some to WDW, and the frequency of their visits, opening parks in phases the way that both MGM and DAK (and to a lesser extent Epcot and MK) were opened is fiscally responsible.

For a less responsible way to open a park, they could open almost fully built, like IOA did, and not make any money (BTW, in case you were not aware, Universal Florida has lost money every year since IOA opened, and admissions to IOA are less than 60% of original forecast)

To another post, why would WDC want to built a theme park with mainly thrill rides....IOA is another good example of why that is a bad idea, it has very limited appeal, and those who it does appeal to are not the wealthiest of visitors.

BTW, I am not bashing IOA, I love the park, but it is not a good case of good business management.
