Week 35 brings us to 1995!!

There was only two options, and that, I went back and forth on.
I turned down Pochahontas. I really liked this movie. Not loved. Was thinking about going back and take a look after many many years and see if my feelings on it were the same or not.
However, I mean, really, it is hard to turn down Toy Story.
Toy Story, I have not seen it, in full, for a year or so. I have watched parts of it when it plays on ABC Family, but not in full.
I am not going to insult you on the story line. Just going to give you my impressions, then go right in to fun and not so fun facts.
The story is still magical it kept my attention. The writing for this movie, and maybe the ad libs, may be the best of all Pixar movies. I think when this movie came out a good many people got caught up in the computer animation and kind of disregarded the writing. It may be why this movie was so popular, the animation for kids the writing for adults. Just some examples of my favorite lines (may not be word for word):
Mr Potato Head-Oh Really I'm from Playskool
Rex-And I'm from Mattel. Actually from a smaller company that was purchased by Mattel in a leverage buyout.

Sergeant- the 2nd gift is bedsheets
Mr Potato Head- Who invited that kid

Buzz (about Sid)- I don't believe he has ever been to medical school.

Well I am sure you have your favorite lines. I also love how some voice actors were just plying their personal characters. John Ratzenberger was pretty much playing Cliff Clavin (Cheers) as Hamm. Don Rickles was pretty much doing his stage personality as Mr Potato Head. It seemed the director John Lasseter just let them go.
Now, what took me back was how far Pixar has come. I was shocked how plastic looking and dead eyed Andy and Sid looked. I was also shocked how the movements of people looked so, trying to find the right word, hiccupy (yes not a word). You can really see it while watching Sid's dog Scud. Take a peek at UP, and see the look and movements of Carl, Russell, and Dug, and you can see how far the animation process has come along.
One last thing, after countless viewings of this film, the creepy toys Sid put together still freak me out. I, as an adult, still feel that way. I cannot imagine what little kids think. How about you?

Fun and not so fun facts:
John Lasseter is now Chief cretive Officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation studios He is also currently the Principal Creative Advisor for Disney Imagineering.
Woody and Buzz are inspired by John's own toys when he was younger. A pull string Casper and a GI Joe which was an upgrade "flashy toy".
"Julie Macbarfle has cuties" on Sid's backpack is in reference to Julie McDonald, camera manager who pleaded to be referenced in the movie.
Billy Crystal was originally offered the part of Buzz,he turned it down. He said it was one of the worst decisions he ever made. When Pixar heard that, they came after him for the part of Mike in Monsters Inc.
The first animated film in Oscar history to be nominated for Best Screenplay adapted or original by Joel Cohen, Pete Docter, John Lasseter, Joe Ranft, Alec Sokolow, Andrew Stanton, and Joss Whedon.

Well, before I go I have to mention the music. Randy Newman's "You Got A Friend In Me" was nominated for an Oscar but lost out to "Colors Of The Wind" (or stolen by). I wanted to note that I think I like "I Will Go Sailing No More" a little more.. That is just me. There is something sweet about it.

Well there is no doubt on this one. 5 out of 5 Mickeys. Toy Story, the film that may have saved Disney.

Next week I do not have much to choose from. A tough week.
Until next week, do not forget to choose wisely when finding a moving buddy. I also hope your plastic corrosion awareness meetings are always a success.

I thought this weeks review was a little choppy. It is tough to do one about a film everybody knows and loves and still make it interesting. I hope I did ok, and made it a little fun to reminisce.
Thanks for your time as always.
