1992 is here!!

I turned down:
Honey I Blew Up The Kids (not a good sequel)
Muppet Christmas Carol (Love It. If it was the season, yes. By the way, anyone notice in recent releases of this they cut out "When Love Is Gone" scene? Which never really fit.)
The Mighty Ducks
This left me with two choices:
I really wanted Newsies. It has become so popular on Broadway I thought it would be fun to go back and see the original again and review it after many years. It had a very long wait through Netflix so I went with my second choice.
A little movie called Aladdin!

Yeah I know, boring In fact I am not going to insult you with a recap of the movie. I am just going to get right into it.
There is so much that is good here from the look, colors, voice work, Menken and Ashman songs. There is not much to find wrong then the last 12 minutes or so get a little wacky if not scary for real little ones.

Let me give some notes on the two disc platinum edition I have at home. First my opinion on the DVD extras. I like to see Goofs (I like to laugh). I also like deleted scenes. I do not like to watch making of's. It kind of ruins the movies for me. Keep the movie magic to yourself. I enjoyed watching the following on this edition:
They had four songs cut out of the movie:
You can count on me-Aladdin singing to Abu. Bad song. Good decision
Humiliate The Boy and Why Me-where Jafar sings real bad songs.
Proud Of Your Boy- A wonderful song. Just wonderful and sweet. Done by Ashman. It was cut because Aladdin's mother was cut from the movie. You can tell all the crew working on this film loved the song. They get emotional talking about it and the late Ashman. Give it a listen it is beautiful if you can getthis copy.
They had a couple rough drawings of deleted scenes:
One involving Aladdin and his mom, and her finding out about his lies. Which was nice.
They also had a scene where Aladdin sees Jasmine for the first time while hiding in a tree, Instead of the market place.
There is a great 20 minute doc. on Alan Menken. Sometimes funny.
Now my favorite!! A must see. It is in the Voice Talent Section.
It involves Lea Salonga, the singing voice of Jasmine, and Brad Kane, the singing voice of Aladdin.
We see them recording A Whole New World in front of a live orchestra. It is beyond wonderful. In fact at one point Brad looks at the camera real quick while Lea is singing and lifts his eyebrow with a wholly crap, she is good look on his face. By the way I love this version with them singing better than the Pebo Bryson version. Agree? Here it is if you do not have the copy but I suggest getting the copy for all the other extras also
After this they say "Not bad for a start". That was a Start???
Well facts and not so fun facts:
Scott Weinger (Aladdin), still does Aladdin voice work for video games and some DVDs. He is a writer for the new 90210.
Brad Kane (the singing voice of Aladdin), he still does the singing voice of Aladdin on DVDs. Also became a TV writer on shows like Fringe.
Linda Larkin (Jasmine), also does Jasmine voice work on games and DVDs. She has also has done a lot of guest spots on TV shows like Law And Order.
Lea Salonga (singing voice of Jasmine), came to Aladdin right off of originating the role of Kim in Miss Saigon which won her a Tony. She has voiced two Disney Princesses, Jasmine and Mulan. In 2011 she was named a Disney legend for her work with the company. She spends most of her time on Broadway, including a new show this year called Alligiance.

Well I feel I have over stayed my welcome, I was waffling between 4 1/2 and 5. 4 1/2 (wacky ending). However those songs! I give it 5 Mickeys out of 5. It's Aladdin!

Next week I will turn it upside down with an adult themed movie.

Remember to stay one jump ahead of the breadline. One swing ahead of the sword.

Thanks as always for your time.

Thanks. I have been enjoying your reviews.

Thanks. It is great to hear feedback. I think next week will be a little bit of a challenge with an "adult" movie, throwing in a T Green review also (which is an adult like movie). Still it is nice to throw in a curveball within the 52 weeks.
Thanks again.
