Week 16 brings us to 1976

I turned down:
Gus
The gy D.A.
No Deposit No Return
Treasure Of Matecumbe
Escape From The Dark The Littlest Horse Thieves

I decided to go with Freaky Friday.

The movie follows Annabel (Jodies Foster) who is always butting heads with her mother ( Barbara Harris). They end up, for reasons, I have no idea, switching bodies when they wish they were each other or wish the other knew what it was like to walk in their shoes.
The movie is directed by Gary Nelson. Mary Rodgers wrote the book and adapted the screenplay. This is one of those movie where the remake is better than the original (which does not happen to often). First, in 2012, who is this movie for? Kids who are not teenagers will not get it, it just does not seem like it is for them. They will not appreciate the struggles of Annable or her mother and will get lost in the story. It really is not a kids movie other than some bad slap stick at the end. Teenagers and adults would appreciate the story line but why not get the more moderen version which was pretty good.
I know it sounds harsh to review a movie based on a better remake. So taking the movie on its own, I thought that there was lazy writing in this movie. Maybe Mary Rodgers struggled adapting the book. I did not really care for either of the main characters. At the end they wish to be back together and they switch places, I mean the whole body switched, it was suppose to be funny but left me confused. Like, why did this happen the first time, and why did it happen this way here. It seemed like lazy writing for a joke nd some slapstick that was not funny.
I will throw in something positive, I did like Annabel's brother Ben (Sparky Marcus), they took time and let you see what it is like to be stuck between two warring factions in the house. You felt for him a bit.

The only fun fact I will throw out there on this one is that this is Charlene Tilton's first movie. She plays Bambi.

I know there is a faction out there that has an affection for this movie. I did not find it. I think it just dated, and the newer movie made it more dated. Then throw in some bad writing, I would give it 2 Mickeys out of 5.

So sad, would have given it worse but Jodie Foster, Barbara Harris, and Sparky Marcus were pretty good for what they had to work with.

We are slowly sneaking up on some rough times for the Disney Studios.

1977 is next week.
Thanks for taking the time.
