50s Prime Time Reviews

I have to shake my head when I read some reviews/comments of 50s PT Cafe on Trip Advisor, YouTube etc. "The waitress was so ignorant, why couldn't they just leave me alone, all I wanted to do was eat my dinner in peace, the food was so plain", etc. Part of the appeal of this restaurant is the interaction with the servers! If you didn't do your research before you went there, that is YOUR fault, not Disney's. Just another example of people not doing enough planning before going to WDW. If you want a quiet, 5 star type meal, go to Le Cellier. If you want a bit of fun with your meal, 50s PT Cafe is perfect.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Totally agree! Me and DH absolutely love 50's and eat there every single trip. Good quality American comfort food. DH loves the fried chicken and that says a lot because we know good quality fried chicken being from the south. I love the sampler myself. Also I do not think its bland or plain like they said and we love our seasoning and spice in the south! Lol. I have enjoyed the waitstaff as well. Always have a wonderful experience.
And we also like finer dining at the signatures as well. You won't get 5 star at 50's as its supposed to be more relaxed like your at "home". But just like we love Cali Grill, Le Cellier, Jiko, Artist Point, and so on we appreciate and enjoy the others like 50's etc. :)

Here's the thing with reviews. Most people are only motivated to write a review when they've had a bad experience. They go through an entire day with either acceptable or above average experiences and rarely will they take the time to write about it. However, when something is not to their liking, they want to "tell the world" what a terrible experience they had. And they want to get very descriptive about their experience. I love when reading reviews the positive ones are usually (not always) a sentence or two. "Great Service...Good Food"..... "John was a great bartender, I recommend this place to everyone"

But when someplace did not live up to their lofty expectations (without any consideration that their expectations were severely mis-calibrated). You get a novel of a review.

No. Not all people, but a lot.

There is enough information on the internet to obtain information on an establishment. I have eaten at 50's and on separate occasions have enjoyed cocktails at Tune-In (I love the fact a lot of people don't even know it exists). It has always been enjoyable. But if I were debating whether or not to eat there for the first time - a quick google image search on "50's Prime Time Meatloaf" would generate a ton of user generated images that would give me an indication of the portion size and overall presentation of the meal. If it was to my liking, I would consider that being a Disney establishment I would get adequate service. I would search for some reviews (not likely on Trip Advisor or Yelp - as I don't really consider them reliable due to their own agendas) and I would use those reviews hopefully to reinforce my opinion and I think I would have proper expectations set for my dinning experience.

Unfortunately some people think they are going to get a V&A's experience for Pecos Bill. Therein lies part of the problem.

I do expect food for what I pay for but 20$ per plate for average food is not my ideal place to eat. I would rather go to Epcot then eat at 50s that is just me tough.

we love 50's prime time. it's the only restaurant that my husband insists we make a rez for. we've only had positive experiences with the staff. funny story: the first time we went it was HOT!!! i mean 97 degrees hot. so for dinner my husband order a dr. pepper to drink. as soon as the waitress brought it out he drank it down within 3 minutes. she just happened to walk by and see it was gone. she stopped dead in her tracks and said "geez you were thirsty huh??? i guess we have a camel on our hands!" we all laugh and she asked if he wanted more and he said yes please. she then brought him out 3 large dr. peppers and said "ok try to finish those smarty". our table and the table next to us just laughed and laughed. when the meal was over, we paid and she had brought out my dessert to take home since i was soooo full. she brought him out a 4th dr. pepper to go and said "here sweetie. one for the road". she gave us hugs and sent us on our way. it was such a fun time. BTW i had the pot roast. i dream about that thing. i highly recommend going here.

I love this place. Only had one meal here so far but have walked inside on several trips just to show friends and family members with me how cool the interior is. I just loved the interactions we had with our waitress. Of course I had my mobile phone out and at different times she told me to put it away while at the dinner table. Lol. My wife loved that part. And then at the end of the meal after downing a PB&J milkshake, it was a nice tip being told, "no Tower for one hour!" Yeah it's a shame that some guests have to complain about service here when they really have no idea it's a part of the theme and atmosphere.

50s food is below average at best Hollywood studios food in general is horrible.

I don't think it's below average at all. For meatloaf, it's a great meatloaf. For pot roast, it's a great pot roast. Again, not fine dining but certainly not below average - average what? It's better pot roast and fried chicken than you would get at an average diner or local restaurant.

Visiting for my first time in April. So, for you regulars, which is your favorite entrée? Like @sxeensweet, I'm in the South and know what good fried chicken should be (and it isn't KFC). But my mom made the most amazing pot roast (she always made her pot roast for dinner the first night we were home on college break), so I'm torn between the fried chicken and pot roast. Or maybe I should get both..... :hungry:
I will be fueling up for the Star Wars Half Marathon.

Do the sampler. You get the pot roast (love it sand very close to the ones at home), fried chicken (yes better than kfc by far! Lol in our opinion and a say a step up from Hoop Dee Doo if you've eaten there another place we enjoy), and you get the meatloaf (pretty darn good for meatloaf haha), and it has potatoes, and green beans etc. I always get the sampler because I can't choose between the fried chicken or the pot roast either. My DH gets the fried chicken and loves it and he loves his fried chicken and won't just eat any fried chicken. He won't touch KFC with a 10 foot poll!! Popeyes is his go to if he has to pick a fast food place. Now it's not spicy like Popeyes but it's a good homemade tasting fried chicken. Just like the pot roast which reminds me of my moms or grandmothers rice and gravy. Yummy!!!! :cat::hungry::hungry::p

Totally agree! Its not supposed to be "fine dining" and it is above average the menu items they do offer. Even some of the appetizers were on par to what I have gotten at some of the signatures on property. They have a crab cake one that is absolutely delicious the way they do it, and a fancier twist on a fried cheese with a different kind of cheese so rich and grapes etc that's plated like a fine dining restaurant. lol So I don't put it as "average" nor does my picky husband. Lol. :p

Thanks - I will have to try the sampler. Not a big fan of meatloaf (surprisingly, my mom could make a pot roast that was like butter, but her meatloaf the dog wouldn't eat, lol), but I'm sure my traveling partner will be happy to eat it for me.

Glad to know the chicken isn't the Louisiana style (first time I ate Popeyes, my lips were on fire!). Personally, I like either Publix's fried chicken or Chick fil A.

The thing that gets me is people r putting the chicken with kfc don't know about you but I wouldn't pay 20 for kfc or Popeyes. I guess my standards are just higher but in general Disney food is subpar in my opinion.

Lol then you should enjoy the fried chicken at 50's. It's tasty but not overly spicy at all. Us personally Popeyes is just right but we are used to pepper because we use lots of red pepper in everything down here. Haha. The pot roast to give you an idea there is so tender it's falling apart. At least mine was every visit. So good like that and how it should be. Might not be quite like your moms because let's face it that's always hard to beat, but definately a great tender and tasty pot roast. My mom always has made a good meatloaf very moist and yummy so I enjoy a good meatloaf too. I understand you not liking it if your experience with it was not so great.
lol ;)
