Well, yesterday we made a surprise trip to the Happiest Place on Earth! So I thought I'd drop you all a line on what's going on there.
In DLP, the following attractions were closed:
Peter Pan's Flight
Space Mountain (duh)
Sleeping Beauty Castle Dioramas (permanently, from the looks of it)
In DCA, the following attractions were closed:
Superstar Limo (STILL!!!!!!)
One interesting thing of note - there was a wall up by the lagoon where the submarines used to be! We walked around by the Matterhorn and tried to peak behind it, but all we really saw were folded up work lights. Maybe they are doing something to it finally???
Both parks closed early (DCA at 6pm, and DLP at 8pm). We didn't get up there until around 1. Though the crowds were fairly large (1 hour wait stand by for Splash Mountain), The TOT only had a 15 minute wait! :sohappy: so that was the first thing we hit up. We then got fast passes for Soarin' and headed to DLP. We waited 25 minutes for Indian Jones. We found that the Stand By signs were dead on when it came to wait times today. Summer has definately started here in Disneyland by the crowds! Strollers, strollers everywhere.
Yes Kristen, we did see Aladdin and Jasmine greeting folks outside the Oasis!
We ate lunch at Tortilla Joe's Cantina. We split a couple of EXCELLENT appetizers (Chicken and beef tamales, and chicken taquitos). My DH (dear husband) had a margarita. All of it was great and I highly recommend the place! Thier sauces are amazing! The AP discount here is for a free dessert with 2 entrees, but the appetizers were enough for us. The tamales (especially the chicken on) were AMAZING! I have a new favorite Mexican restruant (which says a lot, living in Escondido, there are more mexican joints than any other kind in town!).
We went on Pirates with less than a 10 minute wait, and the same for the Haunted Mansion. Some terribly rude kids were beating on each other's cars and throwing change at each other. "God" - aka , the voice over the speaker, had to tell them to behave like 4 times... morons....
We headed back and used our fastpasses for Soarin'. The fast passed turned into just "not as slow passes". It still took about 20 minutes for us to make it onto the ride.
We headed back to Disneyland and grabbed a brownie at the bakery. They are HUGE so we split it. We pretty much walked on the Carosel (a tradition that makes me feel all warm and smooshy, since that was the first ride my DH and I went on after he proposed - on one knee, with the ring and all, in Snow White's grotto, after the fireworks on 9/29/00 - At least, it was the first ride we went on after about an hour of crying and hugging each other! LOL) and Snow White's Scary Adventure. Since Peter Pan was down, the line for Dumbo was HUGE!
We had to sit down so my DH could make a call into his work, so we picked a bench between Big Thunder and Fantasyland. While we were sitting there, a huge herd of goats and a cow walked by, led by cast members. It surprised me! Then, when we were walking, we discovered a little farm-like display near the Festival Arena themed for "Home on the Range"! It was already closed, so we had to peek over the gate to see it. We saw the movie (and I have to admit, it is the ONLY disney animated movie I was nearly completely disappointed in - Lucky saved it for me) and were glad to see some promotion for it.
Big Thunder boasted a line upwards of 35 minutes, so we skipped it and decided to finally go "grocery shopping" and head home. Every time we go up, we get a couple boxes of Mickeyroni and Cheese. It's the BEST mac n' cheese on the market (and a good cheap souvenier at only $3 a box). We also grabbed a bag of taffy for $2.50. The big splurge was on Brother Bear on DVD.
Getting the munchies again, we headed to the Uva Bar in Downtown Disney for dessert. We split the sorbets and apple galetto. Both were GREAT! Add a bottle of Sole to that (sparkleing water) and we ended up spending about $20 on dessert.
With that done, we headed home!
