I love how quaint it is. Really speaks to the spirit and intent of what Walt originally conceived.

Also, the original sketch shows just how influential Greenfield Village within The Henry Ford Museum complex in Dearborn, Michigan was. If you've never been, I highly suggest it. It is seems likely that the railroad around the perimeter, the Main Street vehicles, and riverboat concepts were all partially inspired by, or taken directly from, Greenfield Village.

Figured I might as well share some visual evidence of Greenfield Village. Here are some photos I took back in 2017.....

Train that circles the perimeter and has a couple of stations you can get off at:

Model T that you can take a ride in:

Horse carriage which also transports you across the grounds:

There was no paddlewheeler boat when I was there. Don't know if they still have it or use it but I think I've seen pictures of it in modern times. I'm sure it was around when Walt visited. I have a ton more shots to give you the ambiance of the whole place but I didn't want to hijack the thread. You can do a streetview tour of it here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/G...e2bd1716!8m2!3d42.3053156!4d-83.2246496?hl=en .

You can see that the aerial image of the grounds even resembles the Goff sketch a bit. On the grounds you can find, among many other thing, the Wright Brothers actual house and bicycle shop, a replica of Edison's Menlo Park complex, homes lived in by Noah Webster and Robert Frost, and Henry Ford's boyhood home. The village also does a lot of thematic events throughout the year. For instance, during the summer they host old-timey, 19th Century baseball games. All the players wave at the train when it goes by. The Detroit Symphony holds an annual Independence Day concert on the main green. I've never actually been to the concert but I have been at the village when they are rehearsing for it. Finally, the Henry Ford Museum has a plethora of artifacts from American History, focusing on the postbellum industrial era. Lincoln's assassination chair, John. F. Kennedy motorcade, and Rosa Parks bus can all be found there.
