We have three days in Orlando and was thinking to go to Universal, what's the best tickets to get, is there an entry charge at the gate and pay for single rides, as kids only want to go on 5 riders between Island of adventure and Studios

No, you pay one price for admission and have unlimited access to the rides. In order to do rides in both parks you need a two park ticket. A 2-Park 1-Day Ticket is $165 for children under 10 and $170 for everyone else.
